Having SMU ranked and Arizona not makes ZERO sense Compare their schedules/results (Louisville isn’t even receiving any votes now FYI-so a bad loss) SP+ has Zona 19th & SMU 26th Wildcats finished 17th in final CFP rankings last year & returned most offensive weapons including baller QB Fifita & SMU didn’t appear in the final CFP rankings Yet SMU starts 19th in preseason poll & hasn’t dropped out despite dismal performances & almost never meeting expectations (have only “beat the spread” once so far this year)
Arizona is a prime example of the disrespect shown to the Big 12. They finished last year ranked No. 17 in the final CFP rankings. They brought back excellent QB Noah Fifita. They are now 5-1 with their only loss at No. 8 BYU. This is a Top 20 team but as of today unranked.

This isn’t my opinion. This is data. This counts wins and losses, ant the strength of those wins and losses is measured by their wins and losses. Lotta calculations, but recruiting rankings, AP opinion poll, margin of victory, helmet logo etc. have not bearing on it they aren’t reliable or consistent. Wins and losses are. Sport is all about playing the game and seeing who wins. Some people may ask why margin of victory isn’t important. The truth is, It sometimes is, but usually isn’t an accurate, reliable or consistent metric. Some coaches like Lanning run up a score to 80 against a patsy. Others like Sitake (and others) give their bench sitters some reps to grow, or to evaluate how they perform in live game reps. So it is an inconsistent metric and wholly unreliable. Any statistician worth his or her salt will tell you a stat is only as useful as its consistency.
