Apple is introducing Apple Reference Image on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max - a system designed to provide verifiable proof of what the camera sensor actually captured at the moment a photo was taken.
When Reference mode is enabled, the new main camera sensor cryptographically signs the capture data, while Private Cloud Compute converts it into an immutable reference image, which Apple describes as a kind of “digital negative.”
This reference image is stored alongside the standard photo, allowing the two versions to be compared later to determine whether any edits or alterations were made after capture.

Just days after Tim Cook stepped down as Apple CEO, I found myself thinking about his very first keynote back in October 2011.
One of the first things he talked about on stage was the newly opened Apple Store at IFC Mall in Hong Kong.
I remember that moment. And now, almost 15 years later, I finally got to visit that same store myself.
It felt like a small but very personal full-circle moment - especially now, at the end of the @Tim_Cook era.

The creative way Apple is entering the game with this form factor is not just impressive, it shows why the iPhone Duo will be the ChatGPT moment for foldable phones.
Not a single manufacturer to date, including Samsung, has surpassed the technology in order to elevate it with creativity and a sufficiently impressive UI.
The iPhone Duo is so Apple - it's not the first foldable phone, but it revealed how it should be done.
