Relations between the U.S. and Iceland are stronger than ever. I sat down with Foreign Minister @thorgkatrin to explore avenues to deepen our bilateral cooperation, including via increased investment in our shared Arctic security and potential opportunities for broader defense and security-related cooperation.

Iceland stands firmly behind Ukraine. Today I joined 🇺🇦 FM @andrii_sybiha and many of my colleagues before #UNSC meeting to call on Russia to stop its aggression and engage meaningfully in negotiations.
Together with @kajakallas and @jnbarrot, we held a stakeout ahead of today’s UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.
51 UN Member States stand together today. Ukraine accepted a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire back in March 2025. Together, we call on Russia to finally do the same and engage seriously in diplomacy.
This is a united call for Russia to stop its aggression and choose peace.

🇺🇦🇮🇸 On my way to the UNGA high-level week, I am pleased to pay my first bilateral visit to Iceland.
I held productive talks with my Icelandic colleague, Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir @thorgkatrin, building on the recent visits by President Zelenskyy and Chairman Stefanchuk.
I informed my colleague about the situation in Ukraine, Russia's relentless terror, the blockade in the Black Sea, and our ongoing peace efforts.
We followed up on the agreements reached during President Zelenskyy's visit and agreed to accelerate preparations for the signing of the Drone Deal between our countries.
Ukraine is ready to share its unique experience in protecting critical infrastructure with our closest friends, among whom Iceland undoubtedly ranks.
We also discussed ways to deepen practical cooperation between Ukraine and the Joint Expeditionary Force.
Ahead of the UNGA high-level week, we coordinated our positions on the most pressing international issues.
We paid special attention to Russia's destabilising activities across Europe and ways to counter them.
Energy resilience remains a critical issue ahead of winter — and I am grateful to Iceland for its readiness to continue vital support.
I thanked Minister Gunnarsdóttir for her strong personal engagement, for her advocacy of our shared initiatives in every international forum, and for Iceland's consistent and sincere support for Ukraine.

Iceland 🇮🇸 stands firmly behind our friend and ally Denmark 🇩🇰 in full solidarity over Russia´s reckless action yesterday against a Danish military helicopter in international waters. This was yet another example of Russia´s escalatory behavior and it must be condemned.

On my way to Canada, I met with Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, @thorgkatrin.
We discussed Ukraine’s preparations for the winter, the protection of our energy sector, and strengthening our air defense. We count on continued cooperation and Iceland’s contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The assistance provided earlier is already yielding concrete results, and we are grateful for that.
We also discussed cooperation in the technology and defense sectors, where Ukraine is ready to share its experience with partners. I am grateful to Iceland for its support.

Iceland has always held a special place in Estonia’s story. We will never forget that Iceland was the first to recognise the restoration of our independence in 1991. That friendship remains as strong today.
