Congrats to the #ToyStory5 crew!! Full of joy, silliness, and emotional resonance, this is classic Pixar on full display. We are lucky to live in a world with Woody, Buzz, and Jessie 🤠🚀🐴
shoutout to co-writer/director Kenna Harris, so proud how far she's come since Bears 🥲

And LASTLY: The infamous squish was always in the story from early on- however early iterations had Mabel and King George falling backwards and squishing her on accident- either way, oops...

Dave Franco was delightfully demented as Titus, the Insect King- but Titus in his Caterpillar form was performed by not an actor, but a Pixar artist named Eman Abdul-Razzak (it's her natural voice). She is a lighting technical director, and she also lit his pupation scene!

I really loved this audience preview card written by a 9 year old boy after watching our movie early on....

One of my favorite moments of improvised animation is when Mabel locks the door with her foot on the way out (animated by Rob Denovan)

One of our big finale setpieces was inspired by two big movie influences on HOPPERS: Back to the Future & MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE

You may have already caught this, but King George's workout is inspired heavily by the 80's Aerobic championship video (animated by Luis Uribe)

This scene almost made it into the movie-- the calling of the council. Unfortunately it got way too long so we instead just had King George call out:
"Someone call the Council please!"
"OKAY!"

and speaking of audience previews, some guy during the Q&A got really upset about this shower scene. He kept bringing it up, repulsed by what *he thinks* he saw. Nobody else in the crowd agreed with him, and we did not take the note haha

Speaking of Nightmare fuel--robot Jerry's movements had much more body horror in earlier cuts! Audience previews were troubled by it, so we toned it down a bit. Can't show you that cut animation, but here's some of animator Victor Navone's thumbnails:

Did you catch both our mid-credit & end-credit scenes? We had tons of alts for the gag of them playing w/ the fake Jerry mask: One idea involved a reenactment of Jerry getting ready in the morning, except it was Loaf in the mask (sry if this whole thing is nightmare fuel...)

MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to Disney Marketing @asadayaz and his team who believed in HOPPERS from the very beginning 🙏 They embraced chaos and came up with some wild stunts, like driving around this wrecked car with Diane 😮 Cannot wait to work again with this talented & fun team!!!

Beavers naturally sit on their tails- Mabel's giveaway that she is not a real beaver is when she sits next to George:

Mabel's racial identity isn't a story point, but there were certain details i wanted to make you feel it- like her taking her shoes off....

If you saw our first teaser, you'll notice there's some lines from Mabel interacting with Loaf that aren't in the final movie. This was a rewrite we made where originally, Mabel used to try and sweet talk Loaf--but we realized as we went Mabel would probably be more direct...

When Jerry gets a phone call after the Glade is restored, there's a frantic worker on the other line. It's voiced by famed muppet performer Bill Barretta aka Pepe the King Prawn

👑King George used to have a bunch more Pond Rules like: "Take it if you need it, leave it if you don't", "The time out log", and "No meat Mondays"....

When Mabel tries to lure a beaver with cabbages and apples, this is a true fact we learned from our Beaver Specialist that this is their fav foods. However because it's not part of their normal natural diet in the wild, it is a little problematic if they get addicted to it...

The horse painting above Jerry was meant to be our easter egg for Toy Story 5; but after we did it we realized they just looked like... basic horses. So we ended up doing a more specific easter egg in Mabel's room 🙃

When Mabel gets advice on how to swim from George, this is real advice on how Beavers swim: "In the back we're kicking, in the front, we're kicking back." - utilizing only their back legs:
