Follower of Jesus. Like maths, art and music. Georgist, because we should tax subtraction of natural wealth instead of creation of man-made wealth.

Moore's law states that the price of any given amount of computing power will halve every 1 or 2 years. This law is celebrated without hesitation. The opposite law applies to property prices, and this is also celebrated without hesitation. Why?

Replacing all other taxes by a land value tax would make both land and everything else cheaper:

Sorry anarcho-capitalists of twitter, you have to be Georgist.

Many complaints about capitalism, when investigated, are really complaints about socialism in favour of the rich. What we call capitalism today is a sneaky mutation of what Adam Smith originally described. You can make a strong case that his beliefs should be called Georgism.

AI takes jobs but also creates the fruits of those jobs more cheaply, so it should overall improve life. However, land is not the fruit of any job, so its owners will still demand a full-time wage as rent. The problem is not that AI is too good, the problem is non-georgism.

Yes. Land is a human right, like access to the sea, sun or atmosphere. That's why the only fair tax is a land value tax. All other taxes are fines for improving the world. Land value tax is compensation for excluding others from the world.

Under free trade of man-made things, and only man-made things, it is impossible to exploit anyone. The worst you can do is say "I'll give you this thing I made if you give me that thing you made" and they can say no. Thus, exploitation can only be caused by free trade of land.

#Georgist proof that free trade of capital cannot cause exploitation: Offer= I'll give you the x I made if you give me the y you made Coercion= I'll take the x you made unless you give me the y you made Middle= I'll let you use the natural world if you give me the x you made

Wharton Finance Professor said Pittsburgh is the only city that grew among 30+ cities because they had land value tax instead of property tax. "The thing discouraging growth—taxes on structures—was gone... and all new revenues came from tax on land which couldn't move."

Exploitation would not be possible under capitalism. It is only possible when owners of the natural world make others pay to use it. Under free ownership of labour and capital, but not land, people would only work enough to create the stuff they want. Capitalism = georgism

You are not used to this, so (rightly) it seems absurd. But is there a difference between this and fining production, which you *are* used to? E.g. income tax, VAT? Not that I can see. Georgism is the only non-absurd option. When it happens, current taxes will seem this absurd.
🇩🇪‼️🚨 GERMAN STATE RIPS OUT A SHOWER BECAUSE IT'S TOO LUXURIOUS! Germany tries to protect many neighborhoods from becoming fancy luxury areas. This manifests in situations like this: a guy who pays €950 rent built a shower for himself with his own money in a rental property. The state declared it’s too luxurious because now he has a shower and a bathtub. This is apparently too luxurious and would improve the rental property too much, which could lead to the neighborhood becoming too expensive. So the German state called in contractors to rip it out. And it’s gone. Yay! Peak EU

The thing we've named "capitalism" today is very different to what Adam Smith described. We confuse capital with land. Smith made the distinction between labour, capital and land. He said that land ownership is the most appropriate thing to tax. He was a georgist before George.

Can someone give me a difference between the sentence "We want stuff to be expensive" and the sentence "We want high GDP"? How can you say one without saying the other? Or aim for one without aiming for the other?

It seems what they are trying to measure by GDP is "goodness" or "created value". I accept that GDP would represent this in a perfectly efficient economy, i.e. a georgist one. Without georgism, people will always pay most of their income merely for the right to the natural world.

Georgism is to economics as Molinism is to theology. Georgism solves the war between free markets and socialism. Molinism solves the war between Calvinism and Armenianism. Not by compromise, but by satisfying each side more than the side is able to on its own. And both are true.

Two arguments for capitalism: 1. Voluntary trade of capital must benefit both parties. 2. Supply of capital will adjust to meet demand. Both arguments assume capital is man-made: 1 assumes I can't ban you from the natural world unless you pay me; 2 assumes supply is elastic.

Capitalism is fantastic when companies create goods and compete with each other to sell them cheaply. When they own the natural world and charge you to exist on it, not so much... Every rational person is a georgist, they just don't know it yet.
