This is a fun little board. NRF52 MCU, a RGB LED, white led with a colour sensor, and what I'm pretty sure is a BMA253 accelerometer. Had DeepSeek whip up a web serial interface over BLE, to poke about, and have most of the features working.

It's from a product made by @Sphero, called Specdrums. The idea is you tap the device on a coloured pad, and the sensor gives a nearest match reading within a preset pallete. Long discontinued, I got DeepSeek to decompile the old apps libraries, and got it talking.

With batteries long swollen, and all product support long gone, seemed like a fun use of an evening to start picking the black box apart, just because it was easier than beeping out the schematic!

Need some help from the hive mind, please gang? Does anyone recognize this connector system? 2mm pitch, with these red clips, that can be placed as a unique keying system (aka TPA - "terminal positioning assurance") . Any suggestions on a MFG / something compatible would be greatly appreciated!

in my defence, I naively assumed this would be a lot easier to put into pictures than it was. also, totally unrelated, if you want to crash a background remover, throw a Klein bottle, or some other non-orientable surface at it.

Alright if we can figure out conductive filament enough to get a suitably conductive path to allow this to work... You could be using a multi-material printer to embed the sensing array within the print body!
