I reserved a Tesla Roadster so many years ago that I'd almost forgotten about it. On October 15, Tesla finally shows it off.
If the promises hold up, we're looking at 0 to 60 in under two seconds on its own, under one second with a SpaceX thruster package, 600-plus miles of range, and the ability to hover briefly off the ground. (Strictly a show-off move for your friends at an airport, not something you do in traffic. But no one really knows.)
To be fair, Elon's timelines have slipped more than a few times. It was supposed to ship in 2020, and some of the specs have already been dialed back. Skepticism is reasonable.
But I think he's holding it until he can blow everyone's mind, and with SpaceX involved, I've learned not to bet against that team.
It does hurt to think about what my $50,000 deposit would be worth if I'd just put it into Tesla stock or Bitcoin instead. But I stuck it out, and I try to be an early adopter in pretty much every category I care about, from AI tools, my Neo robot and my Cybertruck. (Building AI systems for a living kind of makes it a job requirement.) As much as I love that truck, this might end up being my favorite car ever.
The reveal is next week. I'm so excited.
