Days later, the victim’s husband publicly thanked Officer Thompson for saving his wife’s life. He called him a hero and shared what Officer Thompson’s actions meant to their family: “Me and her kids can carry on our lives and she will be a part of it.” Those words put into perspective the impact of what happened that day. In the middle of unimaginable tragedy, Officer Thompson gave a family something priceless — more time together. His actions remind us that being a police officer is about far more than wearing a uniform. It is about having the courage to step forward when someone is hurting, the compassion to help when help is needed, and the commitment to serve wherever you are.
