unpopular opinion: a slightly imperfect print beats a perfect render. a bit of misregistration, a dot gain here and there, paper showing through. perfect looks like a template now

we're a small team building bitgrain, a darkroom and design studio in one. you develop a photo like film (38 film looks), halftone or dither it, drop it into a poster layout, then export real cmyk separations for print. no image generation, it's all print maths. short demo below. would love honest feedback from designers here, especially on the poster side x.com/trybitgrain/status/211…

two weeks of inktober scrolling and the pieces that stop me almost all have one big flat black shape somewhere. a coat, a shadow, a crow. the fine linework is the second thing you notice

paper colour is a design decision. the same ink drawing on bright white, cream and mid grey reads like three different moods before anyone even looks at the lines

artists: show us your best piece made with only 2 or 3 colours. pixel art, riso, linocut, screenprint, digital, anything goes. we'll go through every reply and say what we love about it

riso tip: where two inks overlap you get a third colour for free. pink over blue gives you a purple you never paid for. plan the overlaps on purpose and a two colour print starts looking like four

quick layout check: count the left edges. every block of text or image that starts at a slightly different x is another edge. if there are more than three, that's the messiness you can feel but can't name
