🚨 BREAKING: Christa Pike, Tennessee death-row inmate, is conscious and speaking days after a failed lethal-injection attempt on Sept. 30.
Lawyers say she was believed brain dead Monday night with life support set to be removed Tuesday, then woke up and began talking. First words reported: “Where am I and who are you?”
Current condition per attorneys: blood clot in one arm, pneumonia, unable to swallow or eat, unable to move either arm, both arms and hands severely swollen. Long-term arm function still unknown. She remains shackled to the hospital bed.
Governor has ordered an independent review and paused executions for the rest of the year. A judge ordered preservation of all evidence from the attempt. Pike was convicted in 1996 for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer.
This is a developing legal and medical case with no final prognosis yet.
🚨 BREAKING: CHRISTA PIKE’S LAWYERS GIVE NEW UPDATE ON HER CONDITION
“Christa is a survivor. She deserves answers on what was done to her.”
“On Monday night it was our understanding that Christa was brain dead and that life support would be removed the next day. But on Tuesday, to the shock of everyone, Christa woke up and began talking. I do not have an explanation for what happened between Monday night and Tuesday morning.”
Her lawyers say Pike now has a blood clot in one arm, pneumonia, cannot swallow or eat, cannot move either arm, and both arms and hands are tremendously swollen. They say it remains unknown what function, if any, she will regain in her arms.
