Public sector employment in Canada grew 27% over the past decade. The private sector grew 13%. Today, roughly one in five Canadian workers is in the public sector. Self-employment continues to decline. Here is the uncomfortable math: Step 1: Businesses create goods and services people voluntarily pay for. Step 2: That creates revenue and profit. Step 3: Taxes on that activity fund hospitals, pensions, schools and infrastructure. When business openings fall below closures, the long-term funding base shrinks... That is exactly what recent data shows. If we want sustainable social programs, we need a growing tax base powered by productive companies. A thriving country requires both effective public services and an aggressive commitment to entrepreneurship. Right now, we are underinvesting in the second. Canada needs to fall in love with capitalism again... rosssimmonds.com/blog/canadi…

The salary for mayor of Toronto is not enough to afford the average house in Toronto. Imagine trying to govern a place you can't afford to live in. #TorontoMayor #toronto

Our current leadership is why we don't have nice things. #LetsFixit I'm running for mayor of Toronto and I promise you the platform we're launching tomorrow is like nothing you've ever seen. <thread> 🧵👇 stephenpunwasi.com/

What is it about the summertime that encourages the desire to saw things? As soon as the sun is out all summer long all I hear is the whine of saws from garages.

You know what I'm most looking forward to about this free dental thing: I can call a dentist and see them tomorrow if I want to. I just called my family dr and the next available appointment is in 2.5 months

Boomers: sitting on the greatest concentration of property wealth in Canadian history Also boomers: Let's give seniors free dental we deserve it
Replying to @TristinHopper
Super excited to buy the boomers their veneers AND their housing bags
At some point you just have to laugh at the people getting crushed by the system AND ACTIVELY ENDORSING IT.

The idea that Canada would go to war with Russia to defend Ukraine is insane... I don't know a single young person who feels any loyalty to or even fondness for this country right now. Good luck drafting them to die for a country that won't even give them a home
Showing confirmation on a property from another agent 😂 Agree or disagree?
My #SpotifyWrapped 2021 to songs aren't the ones I like best.... they're the ones that spotify won't stop fucking playing, no matter how many times I try to thumbs down
By my own receipts, the price of a @McDonalds hamburger has a compound annual growth rate of 8.81% a year on average for the last 8 years. That's a lot more than our target 2%.

Are we all realizing today that the world is seriously and unironically better off without IG and FB?
A boomer born in 1955, who started working in 1975 and retired at 65 in 2020, paid 1.8% into CPP for the first 11 years of his career. A working millennial, who is paying to support that now-retired boomer, pays 5.45% into CPP. And also can't afford a home.

Young people didn't just get screwed. They continue to get screwed on the daily. By their parents and their parents' friends. Who then turn around and tell them to use those ol' bootstraps, just as they did.

Max contribution to CPP for a boomer at age 30: $379.80. In 2021 dollars that's $854.10. Max contribution to CPP for a millennial age 30 in 2021 dollars: $3,166.45 That's 3.7x the contribution, for those keeping score. Boy it was rough in their day, wasn't it?
