St. John of the Cross literally uses scholastic theology in his mystical treatises for precision, because it isn't opposed to learning about infused charity in the soul and its effects (from Prologue to the Spiritual Canticle)
We catholics must snatch St. John of the Cross away from the neo-scholastics and cheap mysticists and start to read him in accordance with a soul close to him in time and, to a certain extent, in spirit: Martin Luther. That synthesis cannot wait any longer.
