In case you are not keeping track of all the taxes that will be enforced after the elections: 1. Personal income tax (PIT/PAYE) 2. Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) 3. Value Added Tax (VAT) 4. Nigerians Will Pay Fuel Tax When The Economy Becomes Stable — Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has said the Federal Government will introduce fuel taxes when the economy stabilises and citizens’ incomes can accommodate the extra costs. He disclosed this in an interview with ARISE News on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, explaining that the government would first consolidate its economic reforms, restore growth and improve household earnings. Oyedele said imposing additional levies immediately after petrol subsidy removal would have worsened Nigerians’ hardship. “You remove subsidy, you can’t immediately impose taxes. That would be insensitive. You push the people to the wall,” he said. The minister noted that fuel taxes account for between 20 and 80 per cent of petroleum prices in some countries, while several African nations impose multiple levies on fuel products. He said the proposed revenue would support infrastructure and help the country prepare for future disruptions in fuel supply. “Not because we want to impose taxes, it will be because those amounts of taxes will be dedicated into road infrastructure, they’ll be dedicated into building our fuel reserve, that can help us moderate prices of fuel products, if anything happens,” he explained. According to Oyedele, the arrangement could also allow the government to suspend the levies temporarily when necessary to cushion the effects of market shocks. “This is what more than 50 countries around the world, they were reducing the taxes, but we had no taxes, there was nothing to reduce,” he added. “There has to be an order published in the gazette by the finance minister, which means we can’t do it in secret,” he said. Oyedele maintained that the taxes would only be introduced when economic conditions improved sufficiently and Nigerians could understand the reasons for the policy and its expected benefits.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with working or affiliating with the government. Take their money, defend them, sing their praises. That’s all within your prerogative. But when the government you’re choosing to affiliate with is responsible for mass hunger, pains and suffering then you’re very well in the wrong and there’s no amount of gaslighting and manipulation tactics you want to deploy, you simply cannot erase the realities of the people who have suffered at the hands of the reforms and “tough decisions” this government has made. I don’t think we truly realize that people can no longer afford to live. I’ll give you an example. My mechanic is at Obalende, Lagos Island. So whenever I go there, I like to eat street food. That tiny meat we used to decorate the top of our plate was once N20. Now it’s N200. A spoon of beans is now N500 and the cheapest amount of jollof rice you can buy is N500. Now I should be able to afford food and eat till I’m satisfied if the government is working, right? Sadly, that’s not the case. People now rationalize what they eat, when they eat. Balance diet is out the window, that means on an average, we are all unhealthy. Let’s do the maths. Jollof 2 spoons 1,000 Beans 2 spoons 1,000 1 egg is 250 2 beef is 400 Takeaway pack is 150 Bottled water 200 Before you submit your rebuttal, go to your kitchen and put 2 spoons of rice and beans in a plate and look at the quantity. If you don’t have rice at home, then why exactly would you want to attack this? Can’t you see the problem? It costs approximately N3,000 to feed. If you have to eat twice that’s N6,000. Multiply this by eating everyday in a month. That’s N90,000 for one person without any dependents. It now costs 90k to eat an unbalanced and unhealthy meal in a month. Minimum wage is 70,000 and this covers every aspect of life including feeding. The alternative is shortening your ration. I’m losing my mind as I’m typing this because this is actually unbelievable. Now, I’d spend more than 3k at Obalende because I’m able to afford it. But there are millions of Nigerians who can’t, who earn lower than the minimum wage. That means if they’re reading this, seeing someone spend 3k on a meal would be considered a waste because asides all the other things they need money for: transportation, bills, emergencies and other psychological needs, spending three thousand naira out of the money they’ve labored for to eat, is just ridiculous. This is the reality today. It is okay to defend this government, freedom of choice and expression, but asides from the mobilization fee you’ve gotten this period, Nigerians (including yourself) as a whole have not benefited from this government and there’s no logical reason why this government should return. So let me ask, why are you so invested in the success of a wealthy politician, as opposed to fighting for your rights and your own survival?

“Incoming governor” and we never vote 😂😂😂🫵🏽
Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago. My experience of his character over the years has been defined by his honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles… F.Ote💲

Please Everyone, I need your help. From the accident, she has fractures in her hand, leg, and pelvic region. The doctor said the surgery will cost about ₦5 million. It is extensive and will be done in two phases. First they will operate on her hand and leg. When she recovers from that, they will do the pelvic region. It has been a painful experience. We have already spent so much on drugs and medications just to keep her stable this far. The pain is still there every day. A lot of you have followed this from the day of the accident. You have seen the updates. You know what this has been like. Please, if your heart can move you, even ₦1k, ₦2k, ₦5k, ₦10k, or ₦20k from you will help us. Every little bit carries weight right now. Kuda Microfinance Bank 2004212740 Ekpo Richard Unwana If you want to confirm or even visit to see how she is doing, please call or WhatsApp me on 08014616027. Please help me share this too. Title is a banger
World Poverty Day: Why Nigeria Should Have Declared Today a Public Holiday Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Sadly, Nigeria has become a symbol of the global poverty crisis. The rising poverty rate, from 40.1 per cent in 2019 to 56.2 per cent in 2023 and an estimated 63 per cent in 2026, shows how a country can move progressively backwards while those in authority appear unconcerned. Millions of Nigerians are now struggling to live, to afford food, and access healthcare. Yet, government narratives often paint a different picture. What meaning does economic growth have when citizens are getting poorer, hungrier, and more insecure? Progress must be measured by improvements in people’s lives. As poverty deepens, the government should genuinely show concern. Perhaps today should have been declared a public holiday, not for celebration, but for national reflection on how a country so richly endowed with human and natural resources has allowed poverty to overcome it. Poverty is not Nigeria’s destiny. With competent leadership, prudent management of public resources, investment in education and healthcare, and support for agriculture and small businesses, we can reverse this trend. A new Nigeria where no citizen goes to bed hungry and where every citizen lives in dignity is POssible and OK. -PO
