Yesterday, on World Teachers’ Day in Umuahia, we reaffirmed our commitment to the welfare and dignity of our teachers by establishing a ₦1 billion Teachers’ Appreciation Fund. In addition, I also directed the settlement of outstanding check-off dues, salary arrears and promotions, and ensured the reinstatement of disengaged teachers who are below 65 years of age.
Our administration remains committed to strengthening education through better support for teachers, creating opportunities for our children to excel. We will continue to invest in modern learning environments, including Smart Schools across the 17 Local Government Areas, while sustaining free and compulsory education.
I commend our teachers for their dedication and sacrifices. As we celebrate their achievements, we congratulate our Abia public school students who represented Nigeria and won the 2026 International Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar, while also applauding Abia State for retaining its first-place position as the best-performing state in the recently released 2025 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
These achievements are a reflection of what is possible when dedicated teachers are empowered and our children are given the opportunity to thrive, affirming that our investments in education are yielding results. When we invest in our teachers, we invest in a generation equipped to excel on every stage and take Abia to the world.
