She was dating someone else, but I loved her so much that when she said no to me, I kept trying until she said yes. Her boyfriend was abroad, but he came home often, at least three times a year.
We dated on the side for over a year. She would be with me, and her boyfriend would call. She would talk to him normally and say all the sweet things. I was jealous, but it was a situation I had brought upon myself.
After a whole blissful year of being together, she told me she was very sure about us and wanted to let the guy abroad go.
She broke up with him when he came to Ghana. The guy was so devastated that he kept chasing her around until she came to hide with me for a week.
She said, "You see what you've caused? If you ever treat me badly and leave me in the lurch, I'll never forgive you."
The guy had to leave the country prematurely with a broken heart.
Two years later, and we are getting married.
I trust her. I know she won't do anything to hurt me. Since we've been together, it's always been happiness and forgiveness. I know this will take us far, but I get worried sometimes.
What if our troubles are only hiding and waiting to show up after we are married? What if karma is waiting around the bend to bark at us? What if, after marriage, we are paid according to our own works?
The problem might not come from me or her, but they say we pay for our sins here on earth.
This is what's causing me sleepless nights. That we'll get married and everything will begin to go wrong because of how we treated her boyfriend.
Am I overthinking this?
