A number of referendum committees have been created supporting and opposing the proposed constitutional amendments on the November ballot. If passed, these amendments would enshrine marriage equality, abortion rights, and restoration of voting rights in the Constitution of Virginia. Tuesday's Republican primary had the lowest turnout of any GOP statewide primary in the last decade, with only 3.7% of registered voters casting a ballot in the U.S. Senate nomination contest. Primaries in Virginia are normally held in mid-June, but the date was pushed back to August 4 due to the redistricting effort earlier this year. vpap.org/visuals
