Ten years ago, in 2016, the City of Toledo didn’t resurface a single road. Not one. Zero. Since then, however, we’ve dedicated 15x more funding to our road resurfacing program, and as a result, we resurface well over 100 roads per year — every year! We wouldn’t have been able to produce such incredible results without great partners like Geddis Paving, a 3rd generation Toledo business that has been serving our community for 80 years. Enjoyed a great dinner conversation last night w @MayorGinther, @JustinMBibb & the next Gov of Ohio, @amyactonoh. With such a small group, we had the time to dig deep into the issues facing not just our 3 cities — but all of Ohio’s cities. @OhioMayors have a friend in Dr. Acton!

Thousands of Jeeps, tens of thousands of tourists, millions of dollars of economic impact. There’s nothing like @ToledoJeepFest! This year I was honored to host a delegation from our @SisterCitiesInt in Toledo, Spain, including Mayor Carlos Velazquez Romo. Toledo loves @Jeep!

One of my favorite events every summer is the Community Day hosted by United Vision Baptist Church. Lots of kids & families had a blast this morning in Wilson Park getting back-to-school supplies, health screenings, haircuts, food & fun — all at no cost! Hats off to Pastor Perry Harris III, Michael Alexander, and everyone who makes this event such a success.

Today, a family experienced a tragedy that no family should ever have to endure. What began as a roadside stop for a flat tire turned into a devastating incident involving suspected accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. Tragically, three members of the family have lost their lives, while two children currently remain hospitalized in critical condition. Our hearts are with this family as they face an unimaginable loss, and we are praying for the recovery of the two children who continue to fight for their lives. We also extend our gratitude to the first responders, medical personnel, and law enforcement officers who responded swiftly and did everything they could under incredibly difficult circumstances. While investigators do not currently suspect foul play, law enforcement will conduct a thorough investigation to determine exactly what happened and provide the family with the answers they deserve. Please keep this family in your thoughts during the difficult days ahead and pray for the recovery of the two children still fighting for their lives.

Toledo has faced more adversity over the years than most cities, and our citizens always rally together and pull through. This will be no exception. What happened today at the @OldWestEnd Festival, sadly, has happened in too many American cities. But we should never shrug our shoulders and accept it as the price of living in a free society. As a country, we must do better. Toledo is resilient & it will emerge stronger because of the unity we show in this moment — and because of the brave men & women of @Toledo_PD & @ToledoFire, whose swift actions today saved lives. Let’s pray for them tonight as we also pray for the victims of this senseless shooting, our city and country.

Congrats to my daughter, Emma, who graduated summa cum laude over the weekend w a bachelor’s in Health & Rehabilitation Sciences! She will start working on her master’s degree this fall and has already been hired at @OSUWexMed where she will work in Radiography. Time sure flies!
