The issues with the Mercedes M177 V8 are well understood and it seems to be better able to tolerate the terrible petrol available here. Former 08 Lexus GS350 AWD Owner here; They have more limited aftermarket support here - unlike the Lexus IS,ES,RX & GX and worst of all, their spare parts for some odd reason cost more than an equivalent Mercedes E class and BMW 5series. The fact that it came with an early version of Toyota’s Electric Power-steering system didn’t help matters, they were particularly prone to failure especially when driven on flooded roads and to make matters worse, they are police checkpoint magnets.

Mercedes never made an AMG GLK. They made one with an AMG sports package which was more of an appearance/cosmetic add-ons.

The current Mercedes G-wagens will struggle to handle this level of abuse in this terrain because Mercedes decided to remove the live axle and replaced it with an independent front suspension to improve ride comfort. So a certain YouTuber known as Trevor has taken matters into his hands by shoehorning a BMW B58 inline 6 into the front end of the i8 and ditching the oem mid engine based powertrain entirely.
