AI can have loads of information about a place and still miss what that place actually looks like today. That’s the problem I find interesting about @vangrid_io. Think about a warehouse, for example. You might have photos, maps and old footage of it, but none of that tells you what changed this week. Maybe the layout changed. A new shelf was added. A passage is blocked. The entrance looks different from the others. @vangrid_io gives people a way to get fresh 3D data from that actual location. Someone can request a specific place, fund a bounty, and a contributor on the ground can capture it with their phone inrespective of the location. The capture is also handled with privacy in mind, while fingerprinting and onchain records help make the data easier to verify for both old and new users. So instead of guessing from old information, you can get a fresh view of the place you actually care about. That’s a pretty simple idea, but I can see why it matters for robotics, mapping, physical AI and other systems that need to understand real spaces. Sometimes the best data isn’t sitting on the internet, it can come from raw data in your current location. Someone just needs to go capture it.

Exploring Vangrid beyond the campaign Today I decided to step away from the campaign side and actually dive into the @vangrid_io Explorer.
