The reason the @CommonSense_ZA is successful is precisely because it avoids employing the people who Adriaan Basson calls “sought-after journalists.” You know… instinctively left wing, identity obsessed journalism school grads who queue up to work at @News24

Bronkhorspruit water - A timeline of lies and incompetence. 23 Sept - The last dose of chlorine was used in the treatment plant according to official logs. After a few days, the water coming out the plant is no longer drinkable. No one says anything. Beginning of October people are getting sick. 7 - 18 Oct - more and more cases are reported of people getting ill. Many children. Department of Health asks Department of Water to investigate. DWS traces it to Tshwane's Treatment plant. 15 Oct - DWS calls the Mayor and MMC for Water to a meeting after they find out there's no chlorine at the plant. Neither Mayor nor MMC attend. DWS inform city there's been no chlorine since September 16 Oct - Mayor visits plant ansld says they ran out of chlorine a week ago. (A lie, DWS told her office the day before it had been 3 weeks). She issues apologies for the inconvenience. Deploys tankers and officially says the water is not safe. 19 Oct - Press conference reveals all. For three weeks they didnt treat water with chlorine and didnt tell anyone.

Listening to the radio, various callers have phoned in to say they have children or family that have been in hospital since last week due to water contamination in Bronkhorspruit. One lady says their work warned them early last week already when people started becoming sick but can't understand why the city didnt say anything. Surely they must have known? This is worrying, it is possible that because the election was close they were trying to hide the fact that chlorine had run out. So they knew already in September but kept quiet in the hopes nobody would fall ill. Another caller said that in one of the primary schools they put out a health alert when numerous children became sick. But the city didnt take any notice. Meanwhile the city just kept on pumping contaminated water until Mayor Moya found her way there on Friday and "apologized for the inconvenience."🚮

The problem isnt that the water is unsafe. It that they tried to hide it and didnt warn residents. That goes beyond simple negligence.

On Friday Moya said that they ran out of chlorine a week ago. The Minister says they confirmed that chlorine supply had in fact ceased 3 weeks earlier. Moya would have known this as well. Why did she lie about when chlorine stopped being added?
More than 400 cases of gastrointestinal illnesses have been reported in the east of Pretoria, mostly affecting young children. Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya says officials at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works failed to report the chlorine problem to the City, and they failed to alert residents that the water had not been chlorinated. Tune in to #eNCA on #DStv403.

The Nasiphi praise singing has been one of the most delusional features of South African politics. She willingly appoints Eugene Modise (ANC) as Finance MMC. And now this disaster. We know that water is bad - but why no communication?
Tshwane runs out of chlorine at Bronko. Fails to inform public or do anything for 3 weeks. 400 people get sick. And now cholera bacteria is detected the water. Who benefits from Tshwane running out of chlorine for 3 weeks? The water tanker contractors who now have to step in.

A reminder of just some of the things that have happened at UCT over the past decade:   1. Rhodes Must Fall protesters chanting “One settler, one bullet” on campus. 2. An activist wearing a “Kill All Whites” T-shirt in a university dining hall. 3. White students, and reportedly coloured and Indian students, being ordered out of residence dining halls because of their race. 4. “Fuck White People” graffiti appearing on campus during the Fallist protests. 5. UCT's own Institute for Creative Arts promoting the artist behind the FuckWhitePeople artwork. 6. Protesters burning historical paintings, including works commemorating the anti-apartheid struggle. 7. The petrol-bombing of the vice-chancellor's office. 8. The burning of a Jammie Shuttle bus and university research vehicle. 9. Students and lecturers facing threats, intimidation and disruption during the Fees Must Fall protests. 10. Internationally respected Professor Bongani Mayosi suffering abuse during the protests. He died by suicide in 2018. 11. Students arguing that modern science should be discarded and rebuilt during the notorious #ScienceMustFall discussion. 12. UCT's former vice-chancellor, Mamokgethi Phakeng, being implicated in an independent investigation that found she used racial divisions, intimidation, ethnic slurs and racially offensive social media posts against colleagues. 13. The same investigation finding serious governance failures involving Phakeng and former Council chair Babalwa Ngonyama. 14. UCT law professor Pierre de Vos becoming the subject of a criminal complaint after child sexual abuse material was shared through his Twitter account. 15. Representatives of internationally designated terrorist organisations (Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad) addressing a campus event remotely in March 2023. 16. A representative of an internationally designated terrorist organisation (Hezbollah) addressing another campus event later that year. 17. Flags of internationally designated terrorist organisations (Hamas and Hezbollah) being displayed at student events. 18. Jewish students reporting verbal abuse, intimidation and harassment while displaying posters of Israeli hostages. 19. Jewish students reporting being told to “go back to Europe”. 20. Representatives of Hezbollah and the Houthis participating remotely in another campus event in 2024.   Such a wonderfully welcoming, safe, tolerant and non-discriminatory environment for students, academics and staff.   How dare @AdvOppenheimer speak out against hate? And @DavidAnsara had the audacity to share a post praising him for it!   Horrible people who deserve to be punished, obviously.

⚠️🚰 Cholera Warning: Tshwane water emergency worsens, amid water tanker cash-in The Democratic Alliance (DA) has received information from a whistleblower that tests conducted at the Bronkhorstspruit Wastewater Treatment Works have detected cholera bacteria in water samples. The DA has already called on Mayor Nasiphi Moya to release the water-quality test results. If cholera has indeed been detected, this constitutes a serious public health crisis. Residents have a right to know whether their water is safe to drink, and they must be informed immediately. We will continue with laying criminal charges against the City of Tshwane today. This is an extremely serious development in the unfolding public health crisis in Bronkhorstspruit, that has resulted in more than 160 being hospitalised. Last week, the DA revealed information from a whistleblower alleging that the City of Tshwane had failed to chlorinate water at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant for three weeks before the outbreak. The DA warned Mayor Nasiphi Moya and her ANC-ActionSA coalition about the deteriorating water situation in Bronkhorstspruit. Mayor Moya cannot continue to plead ignorance. This crisis exposes the consequences of an administration that has prioritised water tankers over fixing the infrastructure that should be delivering clean water to residents' taps. During the 2024/25 financial year, ANC-ActionSA coalition spent R777 million, compared with just R181 million spent on repairs and maintenance of water infrastructure. The ANC and ActionSA have sold Tshwane to the water tanker mafia, and residents are paying the price. This is why the DA has demanded a forensic investigation into the R777 million water-tanker bill. We want to establish who authorised these contracts, who benefited from them, and why so much money was directed towards water tankers while essential infrastructure deteriorated. Mayor Moya must immediately account for the City's handling of this crisis, ensure that residents have access to safe drinking water, and cooperate with an independent investigation into the reported contamination. The people of Bronkhorstspruit deserve clean water, not excuses from an administration that has created this water crisis. The ANC-ActionSA coalition must be held accountable. Tshwane's residents cannot be made to pay for the failures of a government that has put water-tanker contracts ahead of reliable water services.

Back from a week in CT. Was great, water in every tap, all the time. What a city. Turned on the taps here, on return: no water. So I guess that makes it 6 weeks without water, going into 7 next week. Just is normal now, no water. What a city.

Theres nothing to probe. The city pumped unchlorinated water into people's homes for weeks! Then when 160 people became violently ill and landed in hospital in the space of 5 days, Mayor Moya came out and said "We apologize for the inconvenience, we ran out of chlorine." 🚮
