RIP, Sloyan did great work in multiple appearances on TNG and DS9 including as the Romulan defector and Odo's semi-abusive "dad"

The Defector is top tier TNG and his guest performance was an absolute tour de force

him as the reluctant romulan defector talking about how he will never see his family again is so good.

His ability to project contempt was so impressive, just seeing his face in the Romulan makeup brought back decade-old memories.

To me, the mark of Sloyan being great is that he crushed it even in a Voyager S1 episode about Neelix. Dude carried that episode so hard it is a rare Voyager episode I recommend. The Defector is my favorite TNG episode.

He was an old school character actor like someone you'd see on The Twilight Zone. I didn't know who he was when I watched TNG but he brought some gravitas
