I swear one of the clearest signs that critical thinking skills are disappearing can be found in the comment section of any recipe.
I watched a woman yesterday making one of those dump-and-go crockpot meals. She chopped up ONE onion and put it in. You would have thought she’d dumped motor oil in the crockpot. “I hate onions!” “Why would you put onions in that?” “I can’t stand onions!”
Okay. Nobody cares that you hate onions. Don’t put the damn onion in.
The same thing happens with salads. Somebody posts what they put in theirs and here come the complaints. “I don’t like avocado.” Fine. Don’t use avocado. “I hate tomatoes.” Then leave the tomatoes out. Nobody is standing in your kitchen forcing you to put them in the bowl.
When did we lose the ability to look at a recipe and think, “That sounds good, except I’ll leave out the stuff I don’t like”? A recipe isn’t a court order. It’s a suggestion. Use a little critical thinking and make the food the way YOU like it.
