Risk - there is geological risk, financial risk, and many other risks in the O&G Industry including offshore: WATCH: Borr Drilling rig sinks offshore Gabon, five missing The Prospector 5 Drilling Rig experienced a "punch through" with an estimated 115 personnel on board. The rig tips over and sinks. (Link below at bottom of post) A punch-through is a dangerous offshore incident where a jack-up drilling rig's leg suddenly plunges deep into the seabed. How It Happens Jack-Up Rigs: These rigs stand on the ocean floor using three or four massive steel legs. At the bottom of each leg is a large footing called a spudcan. Preloading Phase: When the rig arrives at a new location, workers pump ballast water into tanks to weigh the rig down. This forces the spudcans into the seafloor to test and lock in a stable foundation before lifting the hull out of the water. The Layer Problem: Punch-through happens when a strong, stiff layer of soil (like hard clay or sand) sits directly on top of a soft, weak layer of soil (like soft mud or loose silt). The Sudden Drop: The upper layer temporarily holds the massive weight of the rig. Suddenly, the soil layer fails under the load, and the spudcan violently punches through it into the weak layer below. The leg can drop several meters in just a few seconds. Consequences of a Punch-Through Loss of Balance: Because only one leg drops while the others stay still, the rig tilts or lists sharply. Structural Stress: The sudden shift places extreme bending forces and stress on the rig's hull and legs. Capsize or Sinking: In severe cases, the sudden loss of stability can cause the entire platform to capsize, collapse, or sink (such as the recent October 2026 sinking of the Prospector 5 rig off the coast of Gabon). Personnel Risk: The abrupt jolt and tilt pose an immediate physical danger to the crew on board. The video is in the article at this link: energyvoice.com/oilandgas/60…

Incredible shot of gravity waves this morning from Thornton! These are caused by a stable, post-frontal airmass. As air was rising behind the cold front, it hit a stable layer. Momentum/gravity pulls the air down from the stable layer in a wave-like fashion. 📸: Becky Bosko

One of the clues to look for about symbolism to normalize gradual Islamic colonization.
Tonight, as I was leaving a restaurant on 14th Street in New York around 10 p.m., this Muslim woman took a prayer rug and a niqab out of the trunk of her car, put the niqab on, laid the prayer rug down, and started praying on the street. I grew up as a Muslim in the Islamic world, and let me tell you: this is absolutely part of an organized effort to flood the public square in the West with Islamic symbolism. First of all, there is no Islamic prayer at 10 p.m. Even if she missed the Isha prayer, which takes place earlier in the evening, she has until dawn to make it up. So why choose to pray on the street at 10 p.m.? Second, a Muslim woman who does not wear a niqab or hijab in her daily life would never normally have a niqab sitting in the trunk of her car. She is clearly not strict enough to wear it every day, so why would she suddenly be so strict about missing a prayer that she carries a niqab in her trunk specifically for this purpose? Third, in almost any Islamic country, you would never see a woman praying on the street at 10 p.m. This would be completely unacceptable. If she were genuinely worried about praying, she could simply wait until she got home, especially since a missed Isha prayer can be made up before dawn. I can tell you with full confidence that these scenes we keep seeing of Muslims praying in the streets of the West are intentional. They serve to assert dominance, normalize Islam in the public square, seize ground, and demand exceptional treatment that immediately turns into claimed rights. Bad-faith acts like this are signals of the same project that turned many cities in Europe into shitholes. Exceptional threats demand exceptional measures. Islam must be banned in the West because it is not a religion; it is a hostile political ideology. Until that happens, the West will continue losing ground to this ideology every single day.

There are certain decisions that will go down as history-defining moments. This is one of them. It's a terrible misjudgment of Putin, who has made it clear he wants to destroy the West. We shouldn't help him do it.

Close to sixty percent of the French economy is government spending. All else aside, the idea that burning down beautiful buildings in Limoges is the understandable consequence of “ruling class” disinterest is self-indulgent bullshit.

The Ukrainian people are the victims of this war, not its perpetrators. That simple historical fact eludes some in this administration, so it must be restated again and again. Putin’s Kremlin isn’t just Ukraine’s enemy. It’s America’s enemy. Whatever it is that drives the Trump administration’s animosity toward Ukraine, that hostility represents a grotesque moral failing. It isn’t just strategically incomprehensible; it betrays America’s values and traditions. nationalreview.com/corner/th…

Celebrating 50 years of stewardship! 🌟 On October 21, we mark the golden anniversary of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), the cornerstone of how we care for America’s public lands. Since 1976, FLPMA has shaped our approach to balancing outdoor recreation, energy development, livestock grazing, wildlife habitat, and cultural heritage. Thanks to this landmark law, we continue to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of our landscapes for all. As we honor FLPMA’s legacy, we’re also looking forward to embracing new opportunities and challenges in the next 50 years of public land management. Together, we can ensure these treasured places remain vibrant and accessible for generations to come. Join us in celebrating at the BLM/Utah State University FLPMA 50 Symposium on October 21! ow.ly/Q8Jf50ZXKfq Let’s reflect, connect, and inspire the future of our public lands. 😊 📸: San Rafael Swell, @BLMUtah photo

🚨The Federal Renewable Fuels Standard adds roughly 24 cents to the cost of a gallon of gasoline or diesel at the pump, yet Trump's EPA is proposing to expand the counterproductive program yet again. What in the hell are we even doing here? Trump’s @EPA under Lee Zeldin just proposed a full 100% reallocation of the 2025 small-refinery exemptions it granted in August. That means larger refiners must make up roughly 770 million extra RINs in the 2026 and/or 2027 Renewable Fuel Standard volumes so the overall mandate stays intact for farm-state voters. Key points on this latest RFS expansion: · The agency first waived obligations for 29 smaller refiners (1.76 billion RINs total for 2025), then turned around and shifted the difference onto everyone else. · The RFS already adds roughly 24 cents per gallon to gasoline and diesel at the pump. Those compliance costs are passed straight through to drivers and truckers. · This is a political move, not energy policy. The announcement came in Iowa, timed ahead of congressional elections, to protect demand for corn and soy-based fuels. · Independent refiners get temporary relief; larger refiners and consumers pick up the tab. The total cost of the mandate grows either way. · The original energy-security rationale is long gone. The U.S. produces record volumes of oil and gas, yet the federal government still forces refiners to blend or buy a politically favored product that raises pump prices, diverts millions of acres of farmland from food, and delivers no measurable environmental benefit. · Biofuel groups cheer the “certainty.” Refiners and the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers call it the administration’s most expensive regulation getting even more expensive. Both descriptions are accurate. Reallocation does not fix the underlying distortion. It just moves who writes the check while the check itself gets bigger. The whole RFS system remains a 2000s-era corporate-welfare racket. Repeal it. Let markets set volumes. Until then, every “100% reallocation” is just another chapter in the same long-running absurdity. #RFS #EnergyAbsurdity #Ethanol [Link to full story in the next post.]
