Despite Somalia’s claims that the North East represents 45% of Somaliland’s land and people, administrative reality tells a different story. These are the official districts the Somali Government has actually assigned for the upcoming local elections. #Somaliland
Fiction vs Fact: Somaliland has 23 districts. The so-called “North East” controls about 3.5 districts, most of which are remote rural areas.
These include Las Anod, Taleh, Hudun, and half of Buhodle. Aside from Las Anod, the main town in Sool, none has strategic significance.
