A U.S. photojournalist working for The Washington Post and several Palestinians were injured when masked Israeli settlers attacked them in the occupied West Bank on Friday.
One video of the incident showed a large group of settlers, most of them masked, descending from a hill above an olive grove where Palestinians from the village of Abu Falah had gathered to pick the fruit. Photojournalist Heidi Levine says she was surrounded by masked men, pushed to the ground and beaten, and had her camera equipment taken from her – despite wearing a helmet and a protective vest marked “PRESS.”
While Levine was on the ground, the video showed the masked men throwing stones and firing slingshots at Palestinians and other members of the press. Levine was taken to a hospital in Ramallah for medical treatment. She is reportedly in stable condition, according to the Washington Post.
The Israeli military said that it “strongly condemns this incident and views any manifestation of violence with utmost severity.”
