The news that #Iraq has begun importing #gasoline via #Syria comes as the country is suffering from acute fuel shortages, with its reserves running critically low.
Disruptions to imports through the Strait of #Hormuz have left Iraq short of gasoline, even as refineries run at maximum capacity. Somo has secured some replacement barrels from within the Gulf and plans to import cargoes through #Jordan and Syria.

As the #oil market eagerly awaits the restart of #SaudiArabia's East-West Pipeline, I was pleased to join @ColbyAntonius and @ShaibZeina yesterday for a @MiddleEastInst virtual briefing on the vital role this #Hormuz bypass infrastructure plays in stabilising global supplies.
I highlighted how #Aramco builds redundancy into its systems and how Saudi Arabia has developed the local capacity to rapidly repair infrastructure after major attacks—a lesson from the 2019 attacks on Abqaiq.
For many producers in the region, investing in optionality is now becoming more important than it was before the crisis. The pipeline attack is unlikely to deter others, such as #Iraq and the #UAE, from expanding their pipelines. As they build resilience, they will also look beyond this, including investing in state-owned tankers and overseas storage facilities. #OOTT
