May I add that if you're not a very determined and strong-willed person, the requirements a person is expected to meet before one can sue a disco is very daunting.
I am almost certain that for every 10 matters that would have ended in court against them, 7 were left to God by those affected because of the procedures. Out of the remaining 3, maybe one enjoys actual trial. P.O kills the other 2.
I was digging through one time. I came across a judgement. A learned Silk sued a disco and the P.O that killed his suit was to the effect that he didn't approach Forum before approaching the court.
About 4 steps, with each coming with needless bottlenecks that sap your resources.
And this is another issue with Nigeria. An entity could have a DG on its website as the head and you address a letter to that DG. Ms Akande at the front desk would have a perfunctory glance at your letter and assert: "We cannot take this letter. Address it to Chairman. He is Chairman not DG." You change it to Chairman and return 2 weeks later to be told that he is no longer addressed as the Chairman, but the President.
Interestingly, matters of such nature interest me so much. It piques my curiosity and I want to know exactly how it will end.
The area manager of an entity once abused power in my estate. The estate said we should leave her to God, I said God has asked me to handle it. I wrote to her, demanding unreserved apology and undertaking not to attempt such in my estate again. She ignored my letter. I took it to the next authority. They transferred her from my area to another.
I wrote another letter and said: "No. Transfer doesn't solve it. She must apologise and undertake never to try such again, or else I will stress your system". The entity sent a 3-man delegate to my house on a Saturday morning. My letter promised hell first thing on Monday. They admitted that they didn't want to wait till Monday. They were polite. Their head of legal was steaming side glances at me. I knew why and they admitted it later. "You look too gentle for that letter".
After their apologies and good words, we shook hand and while they were leaving, I repeated: "The former area manager must write a letter of apology and undertake never to try such in this estate again". She did.
To survive in Nigeria, you must be a man or woman or steel. You must carry a scorpion-like tail and anyone who tramples on you or your right must get an offence-appropriate dosage.
In Abuja for instance, there's one of the platforms where the person meant to receive your complaint acts with reckless abandon and uses her discretion to determine which petition would be received and which would not be.
Saw this on one of my Whatsapp groups.
EKEDC IN DESPERATION
_____
I installed an 18kW solar power system at my property in Lekki Phase 1, relegating EKEDC supply to a backup status. Since then, I have been having more frequent visits from personnel of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), coming to check my prepaid meter.
On one of those visits, the EKEDC team stood watching the meter for motion to indicate consumption. When the meter wasn't moving, they called me to say they suspected I had bypassed the meter. I told them I had enough solar power for my daytime needs and only used their supply as a backup for the dark hours. To prove this to them, I switched on my inverter bypass for about 2 minutes so my consumption would be from EKEDC. They saw the meter rotating normally. They were visibly upset and one of them mumbled something like "This α»ΜgΓ‘ no wan gree us chop". They left.
Today (19-Oct-2026), three of them came to my premises with a notice of disconnection. The last time I loaded an EKEDC token was in July 2026 and I still had ample units left. When I asked why they would disconnect me, they said the reason was "LOR" (Loss of Revenue). They said my slow consumption indicates a faulty meter and I had to pay them β¦112,606 for loss of revenue.
I told them my meter was not faulty and that they could test it if they wanted. The lady said they were losing revenue and they had to make up for it.
I didn't know whether to laugh or to be angry. I have no intention of paying EKEDC a dime for its loss of revenue due to my taking steps to protect my interest.
But, I share this story for all who are investing in solar power to know that the DisCos are now desperate. They now have "Loss of Revenue" as a reason for your disconnection from their supply. It is simply that they are not making enough money from you.
I am waiting for EKEDC to disconnect me from their grid before I lodge a formal complaint to the regulatory authority.
We are in interesting times in Nigeria!
