🍑 I spent some time digging into
$BUTT / Buttensor. At first glance, it looks like another ridiculous Solana meme.
But the deeper I went, the more interesting the mechanism became.
$BUTT is a TAO-paired Solana token launched through StonkFun’s reward model.
The basic flywheel is simple:
BUTT activity → transfer tax → TAO → eligible holders
So this isn’t just a meme trading against TAO. The mechanism creates an actual economic connection between activity around the meme and distributions of TAO.
And the numbers are already interesting.
The latest public reward data shows roughly 9K holders and around 2.9K TAO distributed to holders, with the current value of those distributions around $900K+. The figures change continuously, so treat them as a snapshot rather than a fixed number.
But what really caught my attention was the history.
After the initial team stepped away, the community took over. The market cap collapsed toward roughly $150K.
Most projects disappear there.
$BUTT didn’t.
The community kept building, liquidity returned, trading activity continued and the project recovered back toward the ~$1M range.
That is a much more interesting signal to me than a token that simply launched and went straight up.
Then I started looking at the obvious comparison:
ZCAT → ZEC
$BUTT → TAO
ZCAT demonstrated how a Solana meme can become economically connected to an established crypto ecosystem through its native asset.
$BUTT is attempting a similar experiment around TAO and Bittensor.
And this is where the thesis gets interesting.
ZCAT isn’t interesting merely because it’s a cat.
It’s interesting because it became a retail-facing meme vehicle around the Zcash narrative.
So ask the same question about TAO:
Where is the strong retail meme that represents the TAO ecosystem?
Bittensor already has the AI narrative.
TAO already has the underlying asset.
The ecosystem already has subnets, builders and infrastructure.
What it doesn’t necessarily have is one obvious meme that becomes synonymous with the retail side of the TAO narrative.
That is where Buttensor could potentially fit.
And
$BUTT has several things going for it:
→ TAO-native reward mechanism
→ measurable TAO distributions
→ growing holder base
→ real trading activity
→ community takeover already survived
→ public reward tracking
→ relatively early market-cap stage
→ a meme that is extremely easy to understand and spread
The interesting part is that you can actually track the thesis.
Don’t just watch the chart.
Watch:
TAO distributions.
Volume.
Holders.
Liquidity.
Community growth.
Market cap.
If those continue moving together, the thesis gets stronger.
And then there is the ZCAT precedent.
ZCAT has already demonstrated that an ecosystem-native meme can reach a completely different scale once the underlying ecosystem narrative catches fire.
I’m NOT saying
$BUTT will become ZCAT.
I’m saying the comparison is worth studying.
Because the real trade isn’t:
ZCAT vs
$BUTT
The real question is:
ZEC meme economy vs TAO meme economy.
ZCAT → ZEC
BUTT → TAO
Different ecosystem.
Different underlying asset.
Similar economic experiment.
And TAO’s meme economy is still extremely early.
If Bittensor becomes one of the defining AI/crypto narratives of this cycle, the memes built around TAO could become a very interesting secondary layer of that ecosystem.
$BUTT is already sitting there.
And unlike most new memes, it has already been through a serious stress test: the original team leaving, a collapse in market cap, a community takeover — and it is still alive and building.
That’s the part that made me pay attention.
The meme is ridiculous.
The mechanism is not.
🍑
$BUTT ×
$TAO
Proof of Cheeks.
Higher Butt Intelligence.
The market will decide what happens next.
I’m just watching the receipts.
