Not good news for China.
New study shows that once hospitalised, Omicron is no less lethal than the original strain that emerged in Wuhan.
In other words: the observed reduction in in-hospital severity seen in other countries was due to immunity, which many in China don’t have.
Confirmation that Omicron isn't in fact milder than ancestral lineage (though milder than Delta), so apparent mildness is clearly due to immunity rather than viral evolution to be less virulent.
