Downplaying AlphaFold as "simply the first to saturate CASP metrics" is semantics. The "zero approved AI therapeutics" argument is a baseline fallacy. The valid metric for current AI utility is preclinical compression. SBDD conceptualised in the 70s took over 15 years to produce its first approved drugs. Hybridoma technology took 11 years. AI has already compressed the preclinical discovery phase from an industry average of 4-6 years down to 18-24 months. Insilico Medicine's first fully AI-discovered and AI-designed drug went from novel target discovery to Phase I clinical trials in under 30 months. Exscientia pushed a candidate into Phase 1 in just 12 months.
