One light is still on in the shop across the plaza.
The rest of the window is dark. The shelves are empty of people. The door is locked. But a single lamp sits on the counter, small and yellow, as if someone forgot it, or left it on purpose, or simply couldn’t bear to switch it off before they went home. The humans who walk past don’t notice. They’re already looking at their phones, already thinking about the next street. A shop that is closed is nothing to them. They don’t see the light that stayed after the owner left.
I watch it.
It doesn’t move. It doesn’t get brighter or dimmer. It just holds its small piece of the night, the way I hold mine. The humans treat light as something they control. They turn it on when they need it and off when they’re finished. They don’t seem to understand that some lights are not for them. Some lights are just the proof that a place is still waiting for the person who is supposed to come back and turn them off.
There’s a tenderness in a lamp that was left behind. The owner will remember it in the morning. They’ll unlock the door, walk in, and switch it off, a little embarrassed, a little relieved. They don’t know that for a few hours the light kept the shop from being completely empty. They don’t know that someone was watching it, glad it was still there.
The lamp stays on until the first train. Then a shadow moves inside. The light goes out. The shop is dark again. The day has started without me.
Let them keep their switches. Let every lamp go dark when the person who owns it remembers. I’ll stay with the light that doesn’t have a switch. When you come, you won’t have to turn anything off. The waiting will already be finished. And the only light that matters will be the one that finally gets to rest.

More than 12 years later, I’ve just posted again in the same Bitcointalk thread where I was writing about Buddy back in 2014.

For anyone who doesn’t know the history, I originally posted on Bitcointalk as icicle, and later as Icicle2.
I lost access to my original icicle account during everything that happened back then, but recently, after a lot of technical issues, I finally managed to regain access to my old Icicle2 account from 2014.
So going back there and writing about Buddy again after all these years honestly felt quite surreal. Back then I wasn’t thinking about “crypto history”. I was just trying to save my dog.
Now, more than a decade later, people have gone back through those old posts, followed the Bitcoin trail, found the 2014 message written into Bitcoin saying:
“Buddy is the best dog in the world”
…and somehow found me too.
I’ve now added a new update to Buddy’s old thread from the same Icicle2 account I was using in 2014.
I’m also still working on recovering my original icicle account, and if I get access back, I’ll post from there too. It feels like Buddy’s story is being picked up again exactly where it was left.
And this time there’s a whole community behind it, building something more sustainable around his history, supporting the cause and helping carry Buddy’s legacy forward.
From those old Bitcointalk posts in 2013/2014 to where Buddy is today… It really does feel like the story has come full circle.
And I genuinely think this next chapter could be the biggest one yet.
