Give Yourself Permission to Breathe
Mark 6:31
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
I know what it is like to come to God after reaching a place of complete darkness. When you have regrets behind you, it can be easy to become so determined to change, grow, pray, study, and do better that somewhere along the way you start treating your new life like a debt you have to repay.
Discipline matters. Prayer matters. Feeding your mind, reading Scripture, and staying spiritually grounded matter. But discipline was never meant to become punishment. You do not have to spend the rest of your life trying to make up for who you used to be, and you certainly do not have to feel guilty every time you stop long enough to enjoy the life God has given you.
Sometimes our thinking needs permission to slow down. Take the afternoon off. Laugh. Watch the movie. Sit outside. Spend time with people you love. Put the phone down and breathe. Rest does not mean you are becoming complacent, and enjoying yourself does not mean you are taking your spiritual walk less seriously.
God did not bring you through everything you survived just so you could spend the rest of your life afraid to enjoy being alive. Keep your discipline, keep growing, and keep God at the center, but remember to live too. There are times when one of the healthiest things you can tell yourself is, “It is okay. I can breathe now.”
✝️ PRAYER OF THE DAY:
God, help me remain disciplined without becoming so serious that I forget to enjoy the life You have given me. Teach me when to work, when to rest, and how to receive Your grace without constantly trying to repay it.
🧠 TODAY’S AFFIRMATION:
I can be disciplined, faithful, and growing while still giving myself permission to rest and enjoy life.
🔎 QUESTION FOR TODAY:
When was the last time you gave yourself permission to simply breathe, enjoy the moment, and not feel guilty about it?
