I've finished my latest newspaper/data project! "When's the big day?": The days and times of Catholic wedding masses, 1871-1960 I looked at over 3,000 articles across 30 American Catholic newspapers to tabulate what day of the week and time of day people had their wedding masses. Link below!

Emily and Lorelai were complex, flawed characters which the show does a great job of showcasing, as people have said. Rory is the true asshole of the show and Emily and Lorelai share the blame with the entire town for coddling and spoiling her all her life. Mitchum was RIGHT

thanks to Usuarium and the conspectus view, I can see where the wedding ceremonies were in the context of each liturgical book it is very funny to see what some missals put right after the wedding mass. Someone in the scriptorium murmuring, "That's the mass for marriage sorted. Beautiful. What does that remind me of...ah yes. Plague."

I don't understand why more people don't find it viscerally awful to live in a world where all text, images, and music are no longer produced by human beings. This is an existential change that causes me sorrow every waking moment.

Thus we can see that, while not mandatory or universally and officially required by the liturgical books, there were local and organic customs which involved the laity saying the Our Father with the priest in Latin or concurrently with him in English... long before Vatican II
