Senior engineering is basically being paid to say, “I don’t know, let me check” with confidence
There is a phase in engineering where you feel like you need to know everything.
You want to be the person who immediately knows why the system failed, which database to use, how Kubernetes works, or what architectural pattern solves the problem.
But the more experienced you become, the more you realize that nobody has all the answers.
What changes is how comfortable you become with saying, "I don't know yet."
You know how to break the problem down, where to look, who to ask, what assumptions to question, and how to validate what you find.
That's a much more durable skill than memorizing answers.
Being experienced doesn't mean having an answer for everything.
It means knowing how to find the right answer without pretending you already have it.
