Meanwhile, HISA, The Jockey Club and now Keeneland seem to spend more time dealing with self-caused controversies and investigating problems within their own walls while confidence in our institutions continues to erode. You cannot investigate your way out of a leadership crisis. Thousands of young horses just moved through the Keeneland September Sale and into the next chapter of this industry. Yet we STILL do not have the permanent, industry-wide aftercare funding system our horses deserve. Think about that. We can generate hundreds of millions of dollars in sales. We can celebrate record prices. We can find millions for executives, consultants, lawyers and bureaucracy. But when it comes to permanently funding the future of the horses that MAKE THIS ENTIRE INDUSTRY POSSIBLE, we’re still waiting. ENOUGH. For years, Mike Repole stood up, asked the uncomfortable questions and challenged an establishment that didn’t want to hear them. Now the 99% is standing with him. The questions aren’t going away. The pressure isn’t going away. And the demand for change isn’t going away. So to the people occupying the leadership chairs at HISA, The Jockey Club, Keeneland, Breeders’ Cup, NTRA and every other major institution: LEAD. Bring people together. Fund permanent aftercare. Help save Southern California racing. Fix the sales system. Restore transparency. Listen to the people paying the bills. And start making decisions for the future of the SPORT instead of protecting the institutions of the past. If you aren’t willing to lead the change this industry desperately needs… STEP ASIDE AND LET SOMEONE ELSE DO IT. Mike Repole started asking the questions long before the 99% became a force.
