It will be interesting to see how the US Extreme Court, which has recently twisted logic to serve “religious liberty”, while at the same time using the Shadow Docket to uphold every excuse for State murder without judicial review, rules in the inevitable cases over this.

The suit is about access to the sacraments, not about a party. Behind glass, a priest cannot hear a confession or anoint the sick. A host carried in a container by a guard is not how the Church hands on what she claims the Eucharist is: the body of Christ, whole and entire, under the appearances of bread (Catechism 1374). Calling that “the literal, physical body” in the ordinary sense is the mistake the doctrine already refuses. The appearances remain. The presence is not a symbol.

Rozanski accused the administration of "robbing the detainees of their rights to have access to these sacraments." His archdiocese has filed a lawsuit alleging that a detention facility in Missouri blocked them from accessing Catholics being held inside, violating their right to receive communion and confession. The archdiocese says that most of the roughly 150 detainees are Hispanic Catholics.
