Naked mole rats are masterclass economists. They live like little underground CEOs:
Find the big asset (that massive tuber).
Don’t get greedy (nibble the soft inside, leave the skin).
Let it heal (the plant stays alive, keeps producing).
Rotate (hit other tubers while the main one regenerates).
Come back later (sustainable income, not a one-time raid).
If they ate the whole thing, they’d have one feast and months of hunger. By farming it, they get fed for life.
Your elder brother = the big tuber.
If you demand too much at once; money, favors, time, constant bailing out — you strip the skin. He burns out, resents you, or cuts you off. Dead tuber. No more harvest.
But if you:
Take small (ask only when it truly matters)
Leave the skin (respect his boundaries, time, and stress)
Let him regenerate (give space, show gratitude, add value back)
Dig elsewhere (build your own hustle, other sources, so you’re not 100% dependent)
Circle back wisely (he’ll want to help again because the relationship is still alive)
That’s farming with sense. Not using. Not entitlement. Just sustainable brotherhood.
Who’s the tuber in your life right now?
