Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez, 28, from Venezuela, was shot and wounded by an ICE agent while making a DoorDash delivery Sunday afternoon. ICE claimed they shot Wilber after a foot chase, but a witness livestream captured the moments surrounding the shooting showing ICE ramming their car and shooting Wilber through the back. They would not confirm he was at the hospital and his wife could not get any news on his condition for several hours. According to his attorney, Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch, he previously held a valid work permit and based on the information currently available to her office, entered the U.S. lawfully. Wilber was later released from the hospital into federal custody, according to his attorney. His family deserves answers and a full investigation into the shooting.

Wilber Rafael Garces Perez evaded an ICE agent on a long, high-speed pursuit, forced the agent to pin his vehicle to get him to stop, and then continued to drive off before being shot. His lawyer claims he was in the country legally and had a work permit. A work permit is an Employment Authorization Document. USCIS policy is clear that approving Form I-765 does not grant an alien immigration status. It only authorizes work. ICE says he had a final order of removal. Given that Garces Perez fled and was willing to go to great lengths to avoid being detained from a vehicle he obviously knew was ICE, he most assuredly was in the country illegally. More information confirming this will be released shortly. I’m sure of it. When it is proven he was in the country illegally, @DoorDash should be charged for hiring illegal aliens. This isn't the first time.
