Three developments unfolded in Ukraine this week that appear separate yet are closely related: Trump announced a truce that resembles one which we’ve already seen fail, a Russian drone struck a train near the Polish border only minutes after a different train carrying senior Western officials had passed through the same station, and on an otherwise unremarkable night Russia launched more than 860 drones at Ukraine (most of which Ukrainian air defense shot down). Individually, each of these reads like a discrete news item, yet when put together they show where this war actually stands and how far NATO’s strategy and understanding still lags behind. open.substack.com/pub/alexan…

Both parties broke our immigration system. Both parties must finally fix it. Washington keeps offering Americans the same false choice: accept chaos at the border or accept mass deportations that tear apart families. I reject both. I was nineteen when my first Navy mission involved helping rescue Cuban families fleeing Castro’s dictatorship during the Mariel Boatlift. I learned early that border security and human dignity are not competing principles. My plan would modernize border and maritime surveillance, strengthen our ports of entry, and focus enforcement on violent criminals, traffickers, smugglers, repeat offenders, and national-security threats, not peaceful families working, paying taxes, and raising American children. It would add immigration judges and officers to deliver faster, fairer decisions. Longtime residents could earn renewable legal status through background checks, taxes, fees, English and civics requirements, and continued good standing, and not automatic citizenship or federal benefits. People admitted through lawful humanitarian programs deserve notice and due process before the government changes their status. Enforcement agencies must also follow the law, provide appropriate medical care and access to counsel, and face consequences for misconduct. South Florida believes in law and order. We also understand what the chance to become an American can mean. Secure the border. Enforce the law. Protect the innocent. Keep America’s word. That is the bipartisan immigration plan I will take to Congress.

A USPS whistleblower just exposed Trump’s secret plan to restrict voting by mail for millions of Americans. His plan could prevent voters from receiving their ballots and having their voices heard. Saying that Jewish Americans are the ‘face of racism and hate’ is disgusting, antisemitic, and disqualifying for someone who is part of the Florida Democratic Party. @agrundygomes Every Democrat should condemn this heinous statement and if they don’t, they shouldn’t be in office. More broadly, we as Democrats must address the rise of antisemitism within the Democratic Party. It’s extremely prevalent and contrary to everything we as a party are supposed to stand for.

Voters across the country, especially here in Florida, know that nothing is more important than flipping the U.S. Senate. The only way to cut costs for working families, root out corruption in D.C., and finally hold the Trump administration accountable is to deliver a Democratic majority this November. So, my campaign has made a $400,000 contribution to the Florida Democratic Party. And that is just the beginning. Over the course of the next few days and weeks, we are going to make more contributions to the places it will matter most. Because I want you to know that your support is going where you intended: to help elect Democrats everywhere and to put a check on Donald Trump’s power. Our campaign received a record number of individual donations — more than almost 500,000 of them from people who want Democrats to win everywhere.  It’s only right that the money continues go toward that.

The need to win the Senate becomes more urgent every day. I’m not going to remain on the sidelines of this essential fight.
