Government unions in New York proved they can’t win an honest argument.
Instead of making the case for why public employees should keep handing over their paychecks, they ran to Kathy Hochul and Letitia James for a law designed to silence anyone who tells workers the truth about their Janus rights.
We didn’t back down in Oregon and we won’t back down here.

New York didn't invent this playbook — they copied it from Oregon, where our lawsuit against an almost identical law is already working its way through the courts. Hochul knows this.
She signed it anyway, because the goal was never constitutionality. The goal was to make an example of us and intimidate anyone else who might try.
It won't work. We didn't back down in Oregon, and we're not backing down in New York.

HIT JOB: Gov. Hochul signed a law giving AG Letitia James the power to investigate, sue and fine organizations that send communications New York deems "deceptive" about union membership — and the conservative Freedom Foundation says the law was written specifically to shut them down.
The group has helped nearly 7,500 New York public employees cancel their union memberships, including over 1,400 this year alone, by informing them of a 2018 Supreme Court ruling that says they can't be forced to pay union dues. Now, that outreach could trigger fines of up to $1,000 per incident.
Freedom Foundation CEO Aaron Withe says the law "exists because government unions in New York are terrified of an inconvenient fact: when public employees learn they don't have to pay union dues, a lot of them stop."

New York just made it harder for public workers to hear they can keep their paycheck and skip the union by making it a finable offense to tell New York public workers they have a First Amendment right not to fund the government union. After Janus, that choice is a constitutional right, which we are seeing thousands of Americans, especially teachers, say they no longer want their paycheck to fund leftwing causes. Albany Democrats answered by targeting groups like the Freedom Foundation that have the courage to tell workers the truth.
