christa pike is now awake and speaking after surviving what appears to be the first known execution in U.S. history where a prisoner survived after the lethal injection drugs were actually administered.
regardless of how heinous her crime was, i think we seriously have to ask ourselves: where do we go from here?
legally, her death sentence still stands, and current precedent does not automatically prohibit another attempt. but morally, i find this entire situation very troubling to say the least.
i know this is an unpopular opinion, and i understand why many others will disagree, but i believe that human dignity is not lost even after someone commits a massively horrific crime such as this. when society can protect the public through secure imprisonment, i believe we should not deprive the guilty of the possibility of repentance and redemption in Christ.
regardless of your opinion on the death penalty, pray for her soul and the soul of colleen slemmer, her victim.
