Our son had multiple Juco and D3 offers, with some D2 interest. He had great grades so the D3 academic money was generous. No panic in the room. We were looking for the best fit and were willing to be patient to find it. Ultimately, offered a great D2 opportunity in January that he accepted. Started at SS for two years and is now playing in D1.
Find the schools that are most excited about your son, whatever that level may be. Find schools that align with your family’s values and your son’s academic and baseball goals. Find schools at the highest level where your son can realistically compete as early as possible to play meaningful innings and be a key contributor. Some may disagree, but I believe it’s more advantageous to be a D2 every day starter than a benchwarmer in D1. You can’t build a body of work when you’re sitting.
Commit to the weight room, nutrition and good sleep habits. Most guys have the baseball skills coming out of HS. You need to do everything you can to show up your freshman Fall looking like a 20 year old. Coach Beede calls it “blending in.”
