There's no point creating new laws unless you also make it possible for tenants & residents to enforce them. The fact that nothing was written in to close the enforcement gap is deliberate. SHAC on BBC Radio London - Investing in Council Housing Today, government announced that a greater proportion of the Affordable Homes Programme grant would be directed at council housing. piped.video/watch?v=F9W5cDvV… SHAC was interviewed by BBC Radio London and welcomed the turn away from private developers and corporate landlords, including housing associations, seeing it as an admission that the prior strategy has failed to deliver. However, we noted that some of the funds should be used to refurbish empty council homes, that Right to Buy needs to end, and that 100% should be social rents instead of just the targeted 60%.

He went on to compose a policy paper, titled “Protecting the Right to Peaceful Enjoyment”. It successfully captures exactly how the crisis in social housing case handling has reached a tipping point, exposing delayed interventions and lack of accountability that directly amplify the trauma for affected residents. Dean’s paper is now being used to lobby MPs for better ASB handling, with three already signed up to support the proposals.

It feels like a conspiracy of silence, even when high-profile politicians are making the call for change. During elections, the media regularly reports that housing is one of the top three doorstep issues for voters. It then largely ignores housing issues when the electioneering stops. If failures on this scale receive so little press attention, and if attempts by MPs to call out the sector are so effectively dismissed by the establishment, it is time to build our own power. @andyburnham & @AngelaRayner

Great to see that @BellRibeiroAddy + a cross-party group of MPs have blasted the Government's lack of housing association accountability, asking @mtpennycook to do something about it: We strongly believe that residents in housing association (HA) properties across the country are being failed. They are being failed by landlords who face insufficient accountability, by complaints processes that exhaust rather than resolve, and by a regulatory framework that has not kept pace with reforms elsewhere in the housing sector. We are therefore writing to urge the Government to address this during this parliamentary session. Please share the letter. If your MP is one of the signatories, please encourage to maintain pressure on Government to address the gap. If your MP is not among the signatories, please ask them to endorse it.
