Believing in things has value.
I dunno man, it’s not like he’s just a regular old normal president. I get that everyone is invested in Mamdani being perfect, but that press conference was pretty gross. Liz Cheney made it her life’s mission to ensure that Trump wasn’t normalized. She went down swinging.

Here's some unsolicited advice for my Democratic friends - in office and running.
Think twice before hiring consultants who are cozying up to private equity, signing up to defend prediction markets, or telling candidates to not say what they actually feel about the big AI companies.
A public backlash is growing against the predatory companies that try to erase our jobs and monetize everything not nailed down. They want leaders who are going to unapologetically fight back.
Democrats should seize that humanist mantle. And it matters who we work with.

“Encouraging” is…not the word I would use.
Ron Conway is one of the lead funders of Leading the Future, the super PAC going after candidates that back any type of AI regulation or guardrails.
The other key funders of Leading the Future are OpenAI President (and Trump megadonor) Greg Brockman, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale & VC giant a16z.
Jay Carney leading this effort under Conway’s umbrella taints whatever comes out of Project Blueprint, no matter how well-meaning he is as an individual.
This is an encouraging effort to bring industry and government leaders together to pass the kind of sensible AI oversight we need. It is possible to heed the warnings of so many AI researchers and address safety concerns without sacrificing the technology’s benefits. But time is running out; the federal government must act quickly.

I guess this is more a comment on Harris's political instincts than AI policy. IDK, it seems like a weird read of the mood for the former VP (and 2028 contender) to endorse a lobbying firm/comms shop embedded within a D megadonor's VC firm as the right way to mediate the debate.

The first step is to stop the Anthropic IPO. We can all agree that becoming a billionaire by building deeply unsafe technology is a bad incentive model.

However, this will have limited effect if you can’t control your models.
Will you certify you can turn off your models and agents, now and in the future?

Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

Does anyone else notice that ‘pacing the frontier’ doesn’t seem to include canceling the Anthropic and OpenAI IPOs?
Dario Amodei, Elon Musk, and Sam Altman all agreeing about the benefits of slowing down—and Anthropic unilaterally committing to allowing third-party evaluators to embed at the company—is huge.
But, to pour just a drop of cold water on the prospects of a real slowdown that prevents the RSI/AGI takeoff that some ppl fear, I'm not sure we've solved the problem of international verification.
If the labs are positive that China is racing toward RSI/AGI—something I'm a bit skeptical about, myself—they won't want to unilaterally disarm and hand China the tech lead. Global coordination requires verification that US/Chinese labs are actually coordinating rather than just pretending to coordinate.
So there's a part of the plan that's still stuck in the logic puzzle I wrote about this week:
