FROM RISK TO OPPORTUNITY 🌊 Africa’s small-scale fishers feed communities, sustain livelihoods and keep coastal economies moving. But as the global rules on fisheries subsidies change, a new question is emerging: Will these new rules create opportunity, or deepen the risks faced by the people who depend on fisheries most? On 25 August 2026 at 13h00 CAT l Johannesburg time (SAST), join us for a 90-minute virtual conversation on making the WTO 2022 Fisheries Subsidies Agreement work for Africa’s small-scale fisheries. Drawing on a continent-wide consultation with 36 small-scale fisheries organisations across 25 African countries, the webinar will explore what the Agreement’s first disciplines mean for fishing communities, what governments need to do next, and how the WTO Fish Fund can help turn implementation into opportunity. 🎙️ Convened by our @NEPAD_Agency, DnS Consulting, @BMZ_Bund, @AfriqueCaopa and @ird_fr, with @wto and the WTO Fish Fund as invited contributors. 🌍 Interpretation: English & French 📅 25 August 2026 ⏰ 13:00 CAT 💻 Virtual | 90 minutes The rules are changing. Let’s make sure African fishing communities are not left behind. 👉 Register: zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_… #Fisheries #SmallScaleFisheries #Africa #WTO #FishFund #BlueEconomy #AUDA #SustainableFisheries @EstherineF @Mamadou_AFR100 @nardosbthomas

🐟 An 8-year-old knows 30 fish species. How many do you know? Healthy oceans begin with knowledge. Name three African fish species in the comments and help celebrate the rich biodiversity that sustains coastal communities. @FAOfish @WestlundLena @Manu_FAO

💬 « Mon père m'a dit : la mer ne ment pas. » J'ai compris qu'il parlait de bien plus que de pêche. La mer révèle nos choix, nos excès, nos responsabilités et nos vérités. Aujourd'hui encore, cette phrase me guide.

The hashtag#BBNJ_Agreement is reshaping global ocean governance. It does not replace fisheries management bodies, but it changes how decisions are made. By introducing cross-sector cooperation, spatial management tools, environmental impact assessments and shared science...
