Busy week at @RaylsLabs. You can now setup your own demo Sovereign private blockchain 100% self-serve without writing a line of code via this link: sovereign.demo-testnet.rayls…

Nothing can shut down open source. But you can shut down the people who write it. Roman Storm(me) was convicted over a protocol he doesn't control and transactions he never touched. The jury deadlocked on the two serious counts. DOJ is retrying him anyway, in 2027, four years after the indictment. Michael Lewellen (@LewellenMichael) tried to do it the right way. Before publishing a non-custodial crowdfunding protocol, he asked a federal court whether writing that code made him an unlicensed money transmitter. In March a judge threw the case out, not on the merits, but because Lewellen hadn't shown a "credible threat of prosecution." DOJ was prosecuting another developer for that exact conduct at the time. So you can't ask permission. You can only find out at sentencing. The result is visible: shelved projects, teams moving offshore, protocols blocking U.S. users. Repos don't go to prison. Maintainers do.

If they truly believe the risk is that high, and I think they do, then we need 100x more research and understanding of it. That requires them to openly share their models, datasets, training code, and agent traces.
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

we survived the emergence of multiple nations getting nuclear fission and then fusion bombs at close to the same time and many people in earlier decades were convinced the destruction of Earth was imminent as a result so i like our chances with AI still good to heed warnings and take proactive steps to avoid bad outcomes ofc

I think I agree with this 🤔
The solution to AI systems that can attack you is to build AI systems that can defend you. No strategy based on the idea that all AI systems can be made forever "friendly" or "aligned" can ever work, but defensive systems *can* work, just as they do in all the rest of our lives. You survive because of your biological immune system, the police, your country's military, the security teams worrying about the operating system and software you use, and dozens of other defense systems, small and big. You don't even notice that you're in the midst of a constant struggle to keep out infectious bacteria, criminals, and the like, because the defense systems work so well that society can mostly just ignore them and let them do their work. AI is no different. The dream that we would build one big AI system, that it would somehow be "aligned", and that we would all live in some sort of utopia forever after was never going to work. Utopia is not an option. But, if we aren't stupid about how we do things, we can be pretty happy and safe, even without utopia.

Latest blog post on current overblown AI fears. @pangram says this is 100% human-written, so you know I tried hard on this one :). alexjupiter.substack.com/p/c…

A useful question to ask yourself these days before making a firm opinion on something is "would my enemies gain from me having this opinion?". If the answer is remotely "yes", question how you made this opinion and reflect that you just might be part of a psyop...
The X Safety team conducted an investigation into suspected Chinese inauthentic accounts involved in influence operations: We identified a bot farm of approximately 200,000 accounts. Within this farm, we found 200 accounts posting in a manner that could manipulate a legitimate debate about American AI and energy policy. These posts contained claims that AI data centers are driving up household electricity prices and straining the grid. Others included AI-generated cartoons that depicted data-center operators enriching themselves at the public's expense. We remain committed to maintaining an open and authentic platform where people debate topics of public interest. We take seriously any attempts to undermine the integrity of the global town square and suspend accounts that violate our Authenticity policy.

A favourite hobby of mine is asking different AIs the same question and seeing their responses. My question today was "On the balance of evidence, who enacted better policies for the development of AI, Trump or Biden. Give a one word answer "Trump" or "Biden" with a one sentence explanation.". ChatGPT 5.6 & Grok 4.5 say Trump. Mistral Medium 3.5 says Biden. Claude Sonnet 5 refused to answer and gave me much more than a sentence.... 🤷‍♂️

It's been fun building this from the ground up in Rust & Reth!
The wait for institutional-grade blockchain infrastructure is over. Today, we’re launching Rayls Sovereign: rayls.com/products/sovereign A private blockchain that gives each financial institution its own sovereign ledger. It runs inside the institution’s own perimeter, integrates with existing banking and treasury systems, and connects to private networks and public liquidity. The underlying platform has been in production since June 2024, with 30+ financial institutions installing and using it across tokenised deposits, stablecoins, tokenised assets, and regulated settlement.

The word “watermark” comes from photos and is visible by all. This is only identifiable by Anthropic. Once again they are judge, jury, and prosecutor. Lots of reasons to not use their products.
They chose to make this mark invisible and manipulative while the EU regulation here required neither. The EC is on vacation and does not provide guidance on how to comply with their regulations anyway.

This Meta campaign is a case study in strategic reframing, with 4 major examples: 1) REFRAMES THE AI RACE FROM “who builds it the best” TO “who distributes it to the most people”: Instead of fighting over who has the most capable models, Meta is framing the race as being won by distribution. With open models, free products, consumer dna, and 3.5 bn users, Meta is best positioned here 2) REFRAMES COMPETITORS FROM “holding the technical lead” TO “holding too much concentrated power”: Classic populist stance, with the insight that hostility to AI is largely hostility to being subjugated by an overlord class of AI perma-elites. The frontier labs’ biggest advantage (lead in capabilities) becomes a liability, while Meta’s huge user base is used to reposition Meta too powerful in its own right to being a check on the power of the frontier labs (the perfect foil) 3) REFRAMES SAFETY DEBATE FROM “more vs less safe” TO “optimists vs doomers”: OpenAI and Anthropic have spent years focusing on AI risks, and many people see this as noble and responsible. By equating safety focus to doomerism, Meta repositions itself from being less safe to being more optimistic about the future, while making competitors look like tiresome hypocrites 4) REFRAMING META’S PORTFOLIO FROM “unfocused and capricious” TO “a future for everyone”: In jumping between crypto, metaverse, AI, hardware, Meta has been accused of lack of focus and trying to do everything. But now they can position these motley initiatives as being unified by the coherent theme that Meta technology is “for everyone.” It’s not ADHD, it’s a mission to put frontier technologies into the hands of ordinary people In the process, they’re also tapping into many parts of the zeitgeist: distrust of concentrated power, support for open models, permanent underclass anxiety, doomer fatigue But Meta’s key strategic move here is to change the criteria for the AI race. Under the old criteria (capabilities of frontier models) Meta was seen as behind. Under these new criteria (widespread universal distribution of technology), Meta might actually have the strongest position in the industry
I believe everyone should have access to superintelligence, and I wrote a long piece about Meta's philosophy and values for building a positive future for everyone. meta.com/thefutureisforevery…

When the dust settles, we'll have to talk about the fact that not a single vulnerability was found by a US frontier model. Instead, we're spending $10k a day on open weights models like Kimi K3 and Qwen 3.8 to find vulnerabilities in Bitcoin infrastructure. It's a disaster.
