It's been so inspiring to see the greatest city in the world showcase its values, strengths, and ideals. I was honored to be at Gracie Mansion for "Building an Economy for the Many," hosted by Mayor @ZohranKMamdani, to hear @sanchezcastejon, @miaamormottley, @antoniolscosta, and many other dynamic leaders address the most pressing issues facing their citizens — expanding the horizons of what's possible with imagination. So proud of NYC!

Met Alex Soros, Chair of the Open Society Foundations, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. We exchanged views on democratic governance, accountable institutions, civic participation and the role of young people in shaping Africa’s future. Kenya supports an open society in which citizens freely participate in public affairs, institutions are accountable and constructive engagement contributes to our country’s progress.

Glad to join the Rising Nations Gala in New York and celebrate the remarkable progress of the Global Centre for Climate Mobility and the Rising Nations Initiative. Open Society was an early supporter of this work, backing GCCM from 2021 as it built a coalition around one of the defining challenges facing small island states: ensuring that rising seas do not erase nations, cultures, rights, or communities. Congratulations as well to President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Feleti Teo on receiving the Rising Nations Leaders Award for their work advancing international action on sea-level rise.

I met with President William Ruto at UNGA to discuss Kenya's role in advancing African priorities in a changing global order. We discussed the future of multilateralism, ongoing reforms of the African Union, peace and security in the region, and Open Society's longstanding engagement on issues related to the rule of law, respect for human rights, and accountability in Kenya. 🇺🇸🇰🇪

Honored to join my friend Prime Minister @MiaAmorMottley at @ClintonGlobal for a conversation about who leads now. We cannot allow our political imagination and vision of the future to be the domain of authoritarians and a handful of tech companies. For too long, institutions have been telling people what's not possible. It's time they refocus on what is, and expand their horizons for the future. And as for who leads next? Mia is as good an example as there is. She comes with the ideas and solutions, and builds coalitions across the world. Great to join @IPINST's annual Middle East dinner, hosted by Prince Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, with EU High Representative and Vice-President Kaja Kallas, Qatar's PM and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, our guest of honor, European Council President António Costa, and leaders from across the region. We need more honest conversations like this about peace, security, and cooperation in the region.

President John Dramani Mahama began his engagements on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly with a meeting in New York on Sunday with Alex Soros, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Open Society Foundation (OSF). Mr Soros, an investor and philanthropist who has previously engaged with President Mahama, and his organisation are interested in exploring partnerships and providing support for ECOWAS’ integration efforts. Sunday’s meeting was a precursor to a planned presidential roundtable engagement being coordinated by the Foundation with a select group of global foundation presidents and CEOs, including Gates, Ford, OSF, Hewlett Packard, Hilton, Rockefeller, Humanity United, Anglo American, Chandler and USB Optimus, among others. #PresidentMahamaUNGA81

Last night, on the holiest night of the Jewish calendar, a shooting took place outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville.   A police officer was shot and the community has been left shaken.   Jewish people must be able to worship safely. To live free, open, proud Jewish lives. Canada’s government will do everything in our power to support law enforcement in ensuring that the perpetrator is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.   My thoughts are with the injured officer and his family, and the entire Jewish community.

To all observing Yom Kippur, I wish an easy and meaningful fast. G'mar chatimah tovah!

Europe, Canada, the UK, and other American allies need to think boldly and creatively. It’s a long time until January 2029. It’s existential. ☮️🗽
