Is Swinney saying Scotland was in the EU as a nation, which he wishes to ger "back" to ? This sort of Swinney chest thumping must mean it is very near SNP conference and there are people who must be fooled again on the horizon?
The Scottish Parliament has just overwhelmingly voted to support Scotland's future in the EU. Scotland is a proud European nation, and we want to be back. 🇪🇺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

So does many a bowling club- and unless Mr Swinney is ready to call a Defacto Referendum, his parliament will have the same power as local bowling clubs over the EU matter. 🙄🤔🙈

But in the 130 year history of the Zionism ideology 3 places were seriously considered for a Jewish homeland. Argentina, Palestine and a part of modern Kenya, then in British Uganda. Theodór Herzl would probably have been appalled at what is happening to people just now.
Zionism is both historic and spiritual; the ancient connection of the Jewish people to the land of Israel and their right to self-determination in their historic homeland. I am British by birth, belonging and love; Jewish by inheritance, memory and faith. Britain is my country. Israel is not a competing loyalty, it is the homeland of the Jewish people to which I am bound by ancestry, memory and identity. For millions of Jews, that is the heart of Zionism. Not supremacy, dispossession or the killing of Palestinians and not a colonial claim to a foreign land but the self-determination of a people with an ancient and continuous connection to it. In practice, it must mean two peoples entitled to self-determination both living in security and freedom with neither people’s future purchased with the lives, rights or humanity of the other. That is why declaring “Zionism is racism” is not merely wrong, it tells most Jews that their understanding of their own history, identity and collective freedom is itself morally suspect. The Greens should ask themselves whom they are trying to please by adopting a slogan that turns Jewish self-determination into a moral stain. If your politics of inclusion requires millions of Jews to renounce a central part of their history and identity before they qualify for your solidarity, it isn’t inclusion. You are telling Jews: you may belong here but only if you disown Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people. That is not anti-racism. It is imposing a political test on Jews that no genuinely progressive movement would dream of imposing on any other minority.

The BBC is tasked with squishing lefties. Polanski is popular & radical. Therefore, like Corbyn, he must be mocked & sidelined.
Nice little cosy consensus here, taking the piss out of Zac Polanski with no one there to argue back. BBC impartiality. 👏👏👏

I explain here why I voted for the “Zionism is racism” motion at the Green Party conference. I now find myself, despite being Jewish, labelled “antisemitic” and “extremist” or sometimes worse. Obviously, I do not accept these labels Here is my thinking 1. The dominant Israeli and Western narrative is that Zionism means (a) the right for Jews to have a homeland in their biblical land and (b) the right to have a place of safety after persecution culminating in the horror of the Holocaust 2. This, on its face, is very reasonable, right & proper. This is the core of the UK political & media response to the Greens motion 3. Sadly, the early Zionist slogan that Palestine would be “a land without people, for a people without a land” was not true - the land DID have people, Palestinians 4. The great Palestinian-American intellectual, Edward Said, wrote a 1979 essay called “Zionism from the viewpoint of its victims” 5. That viewpoint is conspicuously absent from much discussion in the West 6. Zionism has meant decades of ethnic cleansing, oppression, apartheid & killing of millions of Palestinians BECAUSE they are Palestinians 7. This is why Zionism is racism 8. One of my (many) Jewish heroes is Marek Edelman, the last surviving commander of the resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto. He did not go to live in Israel. He was an anti-Zionist. He said, “To be a Jew means always being with the oppressed, never with the oppressors”

Is Zionism racism? To answer this question requires a proper understanding of Zionism in both theory and practice. Zionism is essentially a synonym for Jewish nationalism. It is the belief that Jews constitute a distinct people and nation, and on this basis require the establishment of a nation-state of their own to achieve their natural rights and collective potential. In putting forth such views, the late-nineteenth-century founders of the Zionist movement were first and foremost adopting and reflecting the nationalist milieu and principles dominant in Europe, the environment in which they were formed and in which they operated. Yet, from the very outset Zionism was different than other European nationalism. Unlike for example the Greeks, Serbs, Poles, or Italians, Zionism’s intended constituents – the Jews of Europe – did not have an ancient homeland on the European continent in which they remained a majority. The Zionist movement was unwilling as well as unable to challenge an existing European state to carve out an independent state in which Jews, like other European peoples, would enjoy uncontested demographic, territorial, and political supremacy. Its leaders instead sought to acquire the cooperation and sponsorship of a European power to colonize and establish a state in territory outside Europe. Palestine was not the only non-European territory proposed for this venture. Various others in Africa, the Americas, Australia, as well as Cyprus were also considered, several quite seriously. In each of these cases the Zionist movement was proceeding from another principle dominant in Europe at the time. None of these territories were uninhabited, yet their inhabitants did not possess inalienable rights, and could be freely subordinated, dispossessed, and even exterminated in the service of European power. The Zionist movement ultimately settled on Palestine for its nation-state project. Enabled by what the pre-eminent Palestinian historian Walid Khalidi termed “the British shield”, its project met with success in 1948 with the establishment of the Israeli state. Israel could not have been established as a Jewish state without the mass dispossession and expulsion of the Arabs of Palestine, and the wholesale usurpation of their lands and properties. Israel could not have developed as a Zionist state without the systematic application of structural racism against its non-Jewish citizens and the enforcement of apartheid regimes against Arab populations beyond its initial boundaries that would come under its control in subsequent decades. Crucially, the exact same pattern would have been implemented, by design, if the Zionist movement had opted for Uganda, Libya, or any other territory under its consideration instead of Palestine. It is this which distinguishes Zionism from most (but not all) other nationalisms. In other words, the British Green Party, like the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 3379 of 1975, got it exactly right.

This underlines the madness of British political discourse. The Israeli state is boasting about the ethnic cleansing of southern Lebanon. But the outrage here is all about the Green Party passing a motion describing Israel's official ideology as racism.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: The thorough cleansing that we are carrying out now in southern Lebanon is unprecedented. They have nowhere to return to. Look at how it looks. And by the way, the world isn’t stopping us.

So, the Green Party voted to brand Zionism as a form of racism - and all hell broke loose in the mainstream media that for years has been tolerating the Palestinian genocide. Now, on the specific issue, of whether Zionism is a species of racism, here is what I can offer: A recommendation for a forthcoming book that I was privileged enough to get a chance to read before it was published. The author is Benjamin Moser, the acclaimed Pulitzer Prize-winning author of 'Sontag: Her Life and Work'. The book's title? 'Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History'. Below you can find the blurb I wrote when I read it. I think it says everything I want to say on the question "Is Zionism a species of racism?" Benjamin Moser grew up inside the Zionist story. This remarkable book is a record of his slow, painful unlearning of it – its deconstruction. Resembling some character in an Ibsen play, Moser gradually, unwittingly, discovers an unpunished crime at the heart of a storyline he had considered ‘pure’. The result is not a polemic but a resurrection of a fine tradition of Jews who resisted Zionism, whose stories were suppressed, their names erased, their portents dismissed as self-hatred. And yet, as Moser shows with devastating patience, they were right. They were right about the Nakba before it happened. They were right about the settlements before they spread. They were right about the genocide before we watched it unfold. More than any other recent book, Anti-Zionism restores our faith in what Iris Murdoch defined as the Sovereignty of Good. benmoser.com/anti-zionism

Jewish holocaust survivor denigrated and belittled by a peer of the realm. House of Lords member, Zac, showing no respect at all to this man's recount of his horrendous suffering and his empathy for other decent people now suffering like he did.
Who knows what is going on in this man’s head. And who cares? There were free Black Americans who defended slavery, Black South Africans who defended apartheid, and British women who campaigned against women’s suffrage. Did their existence somehow make those systems legitimate, or the movements against them illegitimate?

Israel has certainly become a country where Antisemitism is on the rise Zionists are constantly attacking Jews mercilessly See how a zionist official brutally attacked a jewish man. Zionism is a new form of Antisemitism today If you are a Jew who is against Zionism and Israel in Israel, you may be beaten every day, harassed by Zionists, and constantly raided and insulted by the police.
