Wait, so I’m confused. Anthony Russo gets his membership revoked for supporting OneBC. But Peter Milobar and the MLA who followed him out of the BC Conservatives not only got to keep their memberships despite starting a new party (BC Party) and then later joining CentreBC but they also got to come back and take over the CPBC again. From what people in the know say Peter is throwing a lot of weight around in the party and dictating how things will be run. So you leave the party for opportunistic reasons you get to keep your membership and the CPBC will roll out the red carpet for you to come back. But if you’re a member who gets sick of all the games and you leave and support another party, you get kicked out???

Ah yes, “grassroots democracy” where the grassroots don’t actually get a vote. “Here’s your former BC Liberal leader. We’ve decided the direction of the party for you. Enjoy.” Winning a general election doesn’t magically turn into a Conservative leadership vote. The members still never chose their leader.

I was kicked out of the Conservative Party of BC today. Now the board wants to change the constitution so a leader never elected by the membership won’t have to face them in a leadership race. So much for grassroots democracy.

OneBC doesn’t need to form government to become one of the most consequential forces in BC politics. If no party wins a majority and Conservatives depend on OneBC’s support to govern, OneBC could hold the balance of power. That means real leverage. No OneBC support for legislation that abandons conservative principles or capitulates on them. OneBC could become the sword of accountability.
