Three years ago today: 1,200 murdered. 251 taken hostage. The deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Since then, antisemitism hasn't returned. It's exploded. Attacked in the streets. Hunted on campuses. Murdered from Washington to Sydney. For one reason: being Jewish. October 7th didn't create this hatred, it revealed it. I'm raising my daughters to be proud Jews. Loud. Visible. Unapologetic. We will not hide ๐Ÿ’™

The public memorial ceremony for 7/10, unlike the one run by the government, is broadcast and viewed by 100s of thousands across Israel. The people of Israel stand together, bowing our head before the fallen. #StandWithIsrael ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Over 75 senior retired ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธU.S. generals, admirals, and military lawyers have signed a new open letter rejecting claims that Israel committed genocide in Gaza. The signatories include those who have commanded U.S. armed forces in combat, applying the laws of armed conflict. Their conclusion: based on the facts and applicable legal standard, the conduct of Israelโ€™s war against Hamas does not constitute genocide. As the letter states, โ€œCivilian deaths occurring during combat, however tragic, are insufficient, by themselves, to support a finding of genocidal intent.โ€ The standards used to judge military conduct matter precisely because war is tragic and imperfect. โ€œThe precedent established today regarding Israel will shape the conditions under which American forces fight tomorrow. Protecting civilians and preserving the ability of our nation to defend itself requires us to defend the truth when the laws of war are being distorted to make false charges of genocide.โ€ This is not an argument for minimizing the suffering of civilians. It is an argument for applying the law faithfully and maintaining the distinctions that matter: between the tragic consequences of war, violations of the laws of armed conflict, and the specific crime of genocide. Emily Damari made a video reminding the British public of the horrific suffering that she and other British citizens had to go through as a result of October 7th. Will her appeal to basic human empathy reach the people planning to celebrate terrorists murdering entire families tomorrow? Probably not. But her message of thanks to those who stood with her and all those who suffered most likely will reach those who need to hear it.

Only Israel can be the true safe haven for Jews. #AmYisraelChai
On this day โ€” October 6, 1943 400-500 rabbis stood on the Capitol steps and prayed that Roosevelt would save what was left of the Jews of Europe. Then they walked to the White House, and he would not see them. It was three days before Yom Kippur, and the only march of its kind in Washington during the Holocaust. Hillel Kook had brought them, most from the Union of Orthodox Rabbis. On the steps, their leaders read a petition and prayed, by name, that the president would recognize the hour and save the remnant of the people of the book, the people of Israel. Men wept. They had asked for weeks for the appointment. At the gate, a secretary took the petition, and Vice President Wallace received the delegation. Roosevelt did not come out. The Washington Times-Herald printed what the afternoon looked like from the pavement: โ€œRabbis Report โ€˜Cold Welcomeโ€™ at the White House.โ€ The Forward asked the question the cold welcome invited: would 500 Catholic priests have been treated that way? The prayer named Roosevelt and the petition reached his secretaryโ€™s hands. But the extermination of the Jews went on without so much as a meeting with the president.

France is outraged by the high school protesters using the rap song MRH in their protest. In the song, they reference the Islamist terrorist Mohammed Merah who murdered 8-year-old Myriam Monsonego back in 2012 for being Jewish. On March 19th 2012, Mohammed Merah arrived at the Ozar Hatorah Jewish school in Toulouse heavily armed. He first shot Rabbi Jonathan Sandler and Sandlerโ€™s sons, Arieh and Gabriel, who were waiting near the gate. Myriam, the school directorโ€™s daughter, ran into the courtyard. Witnesses and later trial testimony said she turned back for her pink schoolbag with her favorite ballet slippers. She stumbled and was caught. Merah grabbed her by the hair and shot her in the head. He murdered 7 people in total

A message that deeply moved me. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡จ Nervanah, a Druze woman from Suwayda, has been persevering every single day in learning Hebrew. Today, she chose to use the language she is learning to send a heartfelt message of solidarity with the people of Israel and to honor the memory of the victims of October 7. From Suwayda, across borders and despite everything that separates us geographically, her words carry a simple but powerful message: humanity, remembrance, and solidarity know no borders. Thank you, Nervanah, for remembering with us. ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ We will never forget October 7.

The far left sees October 7thโ€”the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaustโ€”not as an occasion to mourn the 1,200 Israelis murdered in an act of terror but as an occasion to romanticize the mass murder of Jews as โ€œresistance.โ€ The inevitable consequence of glorifying political violence is political violence itself. That is the dangerous direction in which American politics seems to be heading.

Arab Barometer, one of the largest public opinion survey repositories in the Middle East, has released a new survey regarding Palestinians and their feelings on a two-state solution. Once again, the results show that Palestinians desire two states over one. As loud and insistent as the Free Palestine movement in the West is about killing/exiling every Jew to make way for a single Arab state, let's maybe listen to the people this conflict actually affects.

Even as a scholar of antisemitism, I can't wrap my head around how the worst massacre since the Holocaust didn't earn Jews any sympathy or solidarity, only int'l scorn that began while bodies were still warm on October 7. Now, 3yrs later, nowhere in the world is safe for Jews.
